In short: Very good race
In full: I've done the Farnham Runners events at Alice Holt, so decided to give this 5k a go with my son, while my husband did the 10k. Nice t-shirt though a bit of a pain to have to go back to the car with it. I wore mine. Decent medal and glad they used their usual course. Overall a good race.

The only thing I didn't like was having to delay the start by 30 minutes - it was very cold though sunny. This appears to have been because there were long queues to collect numbers/chips. I don't know if this was because the organisers were slow at giving out numbers or because people turned up late, but if it was the latter, they shouldn't have delayed the start given how cold it was. If it had been raining I imagine they would have had a riot on their hands. However, the race was good and I would do it again. Not sure what happened to the goody bag this year - I assume it was replaced by the t-shirt.

In short: Enjoyed this - well organsied even with the queues. Hilly though !
In full: Nice race, challenging little hills and good organisation though something went wrong later with the queues. Make sure that you make the right decision with footware as I was recommended trail shoes and it was way too dry and compact for them. Oh and the marshals were fantastic especially with directing different races at the same time

In short: 3rd time at the Bolt but first time at 10k. Better course this year with some of the same challenges that make it tough but fun. Will be back next year!

In short: Lovely woodlands, but a bit crowded.
In full: A lovely place to run, but paths are narrow in Places, so can be awkward with fast runners pushing past and not a lot of room to overtake. Nice warm-up and a friendly atmosphere. The only real complaint i would have is that i didn't get water half way as they weren't quick enough at putting the water into the cups and handing them out which i could live with, but there was no water handed out or available at the finish! You got a goody bag with chocolate and bananas, but all i wanted was some water. Otherwise it was a nice race for a saturday morning.

In short: Scenic forest race with added entertainment from canicross racers
In full: This is an undulating off-road race on scenic forest tracks. The race was well attended, with friendly marshals and good support, and the canicross racers starting ahead of the main field provided extra amusement. The race used chip timing, and results and photos were available online very quickly.

Plenty of well-marshalled free parking was provided in a field at the forest edge. There were quite a lot of portaloos, and a Starbucks coffee stall had been set up to supplement the permanent caff.

We got a free t-shirt, and a goody bag including mineral water, a banana (nice and fresh and unbruised), a large chocolate coin, a Starbucks mug, a drinking bottle and a pedometer. No medal, and the goodies had only sponsors' logos - ideally I'd have liked something to connect them to the race.

Registration started more than an hour and a half before the scheduled race start, which was slightly delayed. Another time I would turn up later.

I couldn't hear announcements very well, or see the leader of the warm-up. I think lots of people had similar problems and the three races got a bit mixed up in the starting funnel.

The beginning of the race was slightly congested on the narrowish tracks, not helped by some groups running three or more abreast. Due to the prolonged dry weather, there were no puddles, but quite a dust cloud as more than 400 runners set off.

Personally, I found the lapped 10K race slightly psychologically challenging - I had to resist the temptation to cut it down to a 5K, and felt very slow when I was lapped by the front-runners of the half-marathon!

All-in-all though, it's a nice race, and I'd certainly consider doing it again.

In short: The course is challenging....
In full: ...however you can't help but feel that given the size of the local woodlands and sheer number of paths that a 10km loop could have been found reducing the lap fatigue that kicks in.

What I mean is that lap 3 is inordinately difficult as the late 3rd of races tend to be but much more pronounced due to the specific laps set-up.

Minor gripe though, thoroughly enjoyed it.

In short: I love running here -perfect trails.Great organisationa and atmosphere.
In full: Great to see so many beginner runners enjoying a charity run in lovely surroundings. Considering the numbers involved organisation was very good and the goodybag added to an enjoyable experience. A water bottle makes a nice change from a medal- and a T-shirt too!
