In short: well organised jaunt on the isle of wight In full: thanks to organisers and marshalls for fab race. and top marks to sea scouts for efficient bag drop. only bug bear for me ...and reason for not doing it again is the long stretch on a very busy main road with no pavement. I wouldn't run on this type of road at home and thought it was dangerous.! also some car drivers swearing at us for traffic holdups!!but otherwise nice run with lovely views of the solent to take your mind off the uphill stretches. In short: Excellent - will return In full: Well-run and extremely good marshalling. Cars made to wait and lots of cheerful encouragement, plus, the route was always crystal clear. Lots of club runners meant I was always near the back, but friendly and welcoming atmosphere. This was only my second ten-mile event and it has encouraged me to do more. The three steep 'ups' were a challenge, but lots of (much longer) downhill stretches meant that running the lap in this direction made sense. Nice one, Ryde Harriers! And a bit thanks to the scouts for the baggage drop. Date of review: February 2, 2014
In short: They squeeze hills in between the hills In full: I'd like to thank Ryde Harriers for top organisation. Little things like signing to the bag drop from other parts of the venue and someone checking the ladies had enough loo rolls pre race. The scouts were great running a v efficient bag store as were the friendly and encouraging marshalls. I did find it tough......the 3rd hill at 8 is a killer and the stretches where we were running into the wind at the coast....and we had great weather today. In poor conditions this could be a real challenge! Date of review: February 2, 2014
In short: A tough 10 miler that just gets better every year In full: A huge congratulations to the Ryde Harriers for organising this event. Chip timing was a welcome addition this year, which seemed to make the production of the results even quicker. Everything else about the organisation was of a high standard, too. The marshals were excellent (it helps to know half of them too!), and their support was a big lift, escpecially in the second half of the race. Date of review: February 12, 2013
In short: Well organised race on a challenging course, great day out. In full: The hilly parts were steep, and the flat parts were windy. Add in some great views and a fast (net downhill) final mile and the result was a challenging but rewarding race.
A well organised and well marshalled event that seemed to run smoothly, with a decent clubhouse that made for a good post-race atmosphere in the warm.
I don't think I'd travel across from the mainland on my own just for this, but with a good group it makes for a great day out. I'm sure I'll be back for this one again... Date of review: February 4, 2013
In short: Fun and friendly run with world-class marshalling. Loved it. In full: A windy and chilly 10-miler on the lovely Isle of Wight. Lots of club runners meaning there were only a few back-of-packers by mile four and few others to be seen.
Being an avoider of hills and steady inclines, I wasn't sure this was for me. But I was pleasantly surprised. I counted three hills in total and only two on the steep side.
The marshals were a cheery bunch and each had some words of encouragement as I puffed past - thank you.
Ryde Harriers always seem to be very well organised which means pre-race faff isn't a problem.
As with the Isle of Wight Half Marathon, a lovely medal too.
In short: Hills, hills, and more hills! In full: Certainly not an easy 10 miler, but the lumpy profile made it all the more interesting. Pleased to have risen to the challenge. Very well marshalled race, too. Date of review: February 9, 2012
In short: An enoyable pace but your speed depends on the wind In full: Everything worked well, the new course is an improvement on what was a good course before and the medal was a big step forward. Only issue is the traffic in the first mile or two but that was soon forgotten when battling the hills. Oh and the offer on Ferry tickets would have been nice earlier (I note that this is not due to Ryde Harriers). Thank you to all envolved in organising this race as I had an enjoyable day. In short: A hilly one but a great run In full: Changes to the start lifts everyones spirits as we were cheered round the boating pool. Also changes to the end I liked which set me up for a fast finish. Nice medal this year too. Well done ! Date of review: February 10, 2011
