In short: Not very scarey but well-organized In full: A bit of tarmac and a lot of trails. Very well-marked (LED lights at regular intervals) and well signed/marshalled. All the marshals very friendly and encouraging. Mile markers and one water station with bottles, which is very useful. Chip timing for accurate and fast results. Not particularly scary, unless you'd never run off-road or in the dark. The only gripe was the lack of signs for car parks when you turned off the main road. Date of review: February 10, 2013

In short: Grim? mildy unpleasant might be more accurate! In full: Only did this to support a charity, was a boring trail run with puddles, full of non-runners, (walking up the 1st hill! Come on)
So where was the grim bit? At least Turbo X and Hell runner have real obstacles, and can't even begin to compare with Tough Guy or Grizzly.
On the other hand lots of screams and shrieks every time a puddle came up so someone was having fun, ahhh, so sweet!

In short: The most fun muddy and cold race ever! In full: What a cracking run!
Pros- Loads of loo's, good parking areas, well marshalled, loads too keep you from getting bored.
Cons- Expensive when all you get is a tshirt that you cant run in and would not go out in. There are loads of non runners that take part and the tracks are not that wide so it is very slow untill around 3 miles when things start to thin out a bit.
Can not wait to do this again!! Date of review: December 1, 2012

In short: Snow made the race In full: The new Night Terror definitely has potential to be a great race.
Positives = organisation, chip timing, email communication prior to race, nice t shirt, amazing marshalls who must have been freezing, the snow made this race special :)
Negatives = course not that interesting (although I know they had to change it due to safety concerns with all the ice), could have ramped up the terror element a bit more (people jumping out of shadows for example?), would have liked a medal or goody bag for the entry fee
Ran as a team and has a blast, would do it again with a group. Would it be better as a Hallowe'en themed night run...more fancy dress opportunities plus less likelihood of the snow & ice problems. Date of review: February 10, 2012

In short: Grim or Glum?? In full: Was cold and the weather didn't help the whole ace being run. Gutted that water was cut out, but understand due to the ice. Done Hellrunner and it's well behind that for value. Would have liked a goody bag or medal.
Does anyone know the full distance ? I reckon it wasn't more than 6 miles and that's what others have stated.
May do it again, but will miss 2013 to see how it goes. Date of review: February 5, 2012

In short: Good Fun but not Grim In full: As has already been said the weather knocked a big hole in the Grimness of the event. The organisers did well to keep it on, and I think a lot of lessons have been learnt from this inaugural night terror. Later in the year when its frost free would be better, and if not I'll wait til the day to enter and see what the weather's like. It was fun - but not really a challenge. In short: Nice night time run, but what happened to the terror? In full: The snow that was falling added a definate atmosphere to the event however, I did not expect the race to be so tame. Terror was no where to be had, in fact I get more worry running through Guildford town centre at night. I do understand that due to the weather certain re routing may be needed, but not a reduction in the race length. Given the hype very disappointing. Date of review: February 5, 2012

In short: Far too easy. In full: I'm not one to be interested in goody bags, so the fact that there wasn't one didn't bother me. However, even considering the fact that the organisers understandably prevented us going through shin-splinteringly thick ice, the course was appallingly easy. It was an eyeballs-out dash along 20ft wide sandy vehicle tracks. It was also way short of eight miles. I got the impression that organisers just 'chopped out' the dodgy bits of the course and thought that would do. Why did they not mark a route through the wonderful woodland, (often used for orienteering), instead of using the mind-numbingly boring sandy track all the time ? Two hours work with a load of hazard tape would have done it. The "London Weekend Warriors" might have enjoyed it and thought it 'tough' but if you're a 'dyed-in-the-wool off-road runner, you'd want your money back ! Thank god for the Long Mynd Valley Fell race the next day. A real 'man's' race. Yes, it had all the peripheral stuff - bar, burgers, changing tent etc, but for god's sake give us a good course ! In short: Not very challenging. A bit expensive and no goody bag In full: First thing, first - well done to the prganizers for not cancelling as a result of the weather.
Started off badly though when I walked all the way to the start only to be told by the marshall I needed my number (which I left in the car) to collect my running chip. Surely they have a starting list!!
I appreciate the cold weather meant that the course had to be changed and there was no water because of the ice - but instead of shortening the course, I would have preferred if it was lengthed to make up for the lack og cold water, bogs, etc.
Very pricey when you consider no goody bag either.
A bit disappointed, but I will be back next year Date of review: February 5, 2012

In short: Have I just been conned? In full: I have taken part in the Grim & the Beast so knew this would be pricey but come on! What did I get for £25? Expected: Ghouls and zombies in the woods scaring the willies out of me. Got: A CD on a loop in some parts of the race. Expected: A challenging course. Got: a nice jog. Expected: A quality T-shirt. Got: A T-shirt which is too small and I'll never wear (we've run out of large). Expected: A goody bag. Got: Water.
As ever, well organised and I'll accept it would have been muddier/better if the weather had not been so bad but "A Night Terror"? I think trade descriptions might want to look into this! Well done to the marshal in the clown mask - you were the only one to make an effort. COULD BE SO MUCH BETTER. Date of review: February 5, 2012
