In short: Karen, What chu talkin' 'bout? The Brilliant Beckenham Road Relay! In full: Runners, if you are a team player and like a bit of action then Beckenham road relay is definitely for you.
What I love about this race is the atmosphere. The shouting, the screaming, the laughter, the jumping up down (sorry about that folks I do get a bit carried away at times) and also the smiling runners faces. Not to mention the beautiful different coloured runners vest. I must say this race always gives me butterflies, but I totally love it.
It was also good to see Jonathan and Richard from Petts Wood Runners who were looking so sharp. I am sorry that Kent Athletic Club, Orpington Road Runners and Serpentine Running Club were unable to run; it would have made it much more exciting. Here you see Kent’s finest sprinters all fuelled up, fired and ready to run. And of course not to forget myself, Happy go Lucky Karen Samuel. I must say Beckenham Running Club we loved the new 2.6 miles course. Although it was hilly and tough in places, running through the park was very pleasant indeed. However, I was not keen on that mountain hill at the finish!!! Every year I always look forward to running the Beckenham road relay. I have just checked the results; I am the second slowest runner overall- sorry team :( But I still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Runners all you need is 3 people who can run to form a team and it can be a mixed or single-sex team and you do not need to belong to a running club. If you are looking for a medal you should run Beckenham 10k in June or Beckenham 10k trail race later in the year- please check their Beckenham RC website.
Well done to Beckenham Running Club. Same time, same place next year?
Folks, I have just seen the time. I have got to run.
In short: A really good race for someone who lives locally (like myself). Wouldn't travel very far for it. In full: Don't quite understand why the course couldn't pass through the Beckenham Place park instead of Beckenham Hill Road - this would make it a bit less suburbian... In short: challenging 10 k in warm conditions In full: Running this race for the second time. Knowledge of the course and more particularly when the hills were coming up helped me to pace myself better. Took a couple of minutes of my time from last year. Like this one as there are showers and lockers for baggage storage which are must have for anyone travelling to a race on public transport. You have to arrive an hour or so early to ensure being able to get a locker. It might be helpful tostate that there are lockers in themain clubhouse building that runners can use.
In general a very friendly local race with good support coming from marshalls and public alike. Enjoy finishing in the shade of the trees as well.
My only gripe which one runner has already referred to is that there was no visible 9 km marker. Well done to Beckenham Running Club for the organisation of this event. See you next year ! Date of review: June 3, 2008
