In full: wanted to try the new route, glad i did. warm day & a few climbs but overall a good run and a nice low key event. This race will attract more runners in future, well organised nice marshal's. i will run it again in 2015..... Date of review: June 27, 2014
In short: Easier, but not a lot In full: I had been almost defeated by the previous course a few years back. Although this one is in exactly the same area, it is easier, but not a lot. We did not have to do the climbs through the woods of before, as we circled the main culprit this time. But a sharp climb in the home-bound woods took me by surprise. Nice feel to this race from the village green start to the cake stall. Not enough runners this year; lots of event competition these days, I suppose. Worth a go as it leaves a satisfying feeling afterwards. Date of review: June 27, 2014
In short: First ever 10k - a real cracker In full: This was my first ever 10k and so I set a PB on a course with a few hills so every other race I do I from now on will be faster! Beautiful course through the Chilterns AONB. Enthusiastic cheering from the eccentric lady at the finish was most welcome. Oh - and my 12 year old son did the 5k at the same time and he was chuffed. In short: New Improved Course In full: This used to be the toughest 10k I've taken part in but now it is easier than before they changed the course. Still a challenging run but not so aggressive making it doable for most abilities. The Marshals were great, encouraging and plenty of them so no chance of getting lost. Nice village feel and monies to the local school make this a date for the diary next year. Date of review: June 23, 2014
In short: An informal race with some challenging inclines In full: 2014 was a new route for this race. There was a fair bit of downhill near the start to fill you with dread about the journey back. However, apart from a short surprise at about 7k, the rest of the course was just a steady climb back. There were some narrow stretches which made overtaking hard if you got caught behind a slower runner.
The organisation was relaxed, with an informal feel. Plenty of marshals on the course to make sure you knew where to go and to encourage you on. No chip timing (probably out of budget for a race of this size), but you're probably not looking for a PB at this one.
The cake stall afterwards was very welcome though the chocolate cakes were trying to melt in the sun. Date of review: June 22, 2014
In short: Pretty but painful. In full: A local runner at the start told me this is "quite uppity and downity all round really", and quite right he was too. It was hot and hard work. The marshalls and other runners were friendly but there wasn't much other support, and no goody bag for finishers. There was ample parking, albeit a fair way away, and an extra loo in the village hall, which was a good thing given the number of non-runners in the toilet queue minutes before the start. A marshall stationed to stop that happening in the last 20 minutes would be much appreciated. Date of review: June 24, 2012
In short: If you like a challenge.... In full: This is the 3rd time I've run this race and I've really enjoyed it each time even though it's a really tough hilly (but scenic) 10K course. There's a nice atmosphere and the marshalls are very friendly and supportive. My only criticism this year was that the water in the cups at the water stations tasted awful.
In short: If you love hills this is the race for you! In full: Third year that I've run this and I've not run a tougher 10k course anywhere, however the course offers plenty of rewards. Well organised and a friendly village 10k - which I love. So many thanks! Date of review: June 19, 2012
In short: Love hills - love this race In full: One of my favourites and the third time I have run the race. I love the feeling of it, starting and finishing on the green then a really tough hilly 10k. Very friendly too - always seem to get chatting to somebody. Date of review: June 17, 2012
