In short: Loved It Despite the Howling Winds In full: I would have liked a PB given the course, but finished 2 mins outside, mainly down to the wind, will be back to have another go. Yep, hot tea would have been nice, but I doubt the Striders manage the Hall. maybe negotiate for next year to get access to the catering side. Race instructions didn't specify start time, so we arrived at 9 expecting a 10am off. Should have checked I know, but the reporting instructions should have that sort of info in bold I feel for those of us who need a summary. Enjoyed it a lot, hope to return. In short: Pleasant course. PB potential for all. In full: I have to agree with other contributors- there were no great facilities on offer, a chance to buy a hot drink at the end of the race would have been nice. I didn't encounter any problems following the course as it seemed well marshalled. The course was a perfect Sunday morning 10 miler but the wind certainly added several minutes to finishing times. I would do it again but I hope the organisers take on board the criticisms and offer a bit more next year (a tech t-shirt for the price we paid would have been better)!! In short: A good flat race. In full: A good race, on flat country roads. If your looking for a PB for 10 miles, then this is the race for you. Even with the windy conditions, it was still quick. Plenty of parking, plenty of signage to the start, plenty of marshalls and hardly a car in sight on the course. As someone has already mentioned, I think the organisers missed an opportunity, as some form of hot refreshment would have been ideal at the finish especially with the chilly conditions, and who would grumble at paying £11 for a 10 mile race - good value in my eyes. In short: Excellent and well organised race - flat, fast and scenic too. In full: Every marshall supportive of all runners, lovely course and definitely one I will be back for next year. Plenty of parking, water stations if you needed them and a PB to boot - cracking Sunday morning. Well done to Selby Striders for organising this one> Date of review: October 25, 2010

In short: A fast, pancake flat course with huge PB potential In full: Really enjoyed yesterday's race. A clear and sunny (albeit blustery) day, coupled with a route that runs along narrow roads, criss-crossing the flat farmland of North Yorkshire made for a fast and thrilling race.
Despite being a small race in a sparsely populated area it was nice to still see small groups of supporters on the sidelines and there was plenty of encouragement from the marshals. Date of review: October 25, 2010

In short: Overpriced, poor prize list. In full: First the good points, it was well marshaled from the village to the parking area, the course was well marshaled except for the last turn where my wife took control to stop runners going wrong. PB potential without the wind!
I have organised races for 25 years and know the costs and organisation involved. £11.00 for club runners is way too high for the cost of a T shirt and a very small prize lists, I can order 250 T shirts for £3.00 quid or so.
Why was there no coffee/tea etc for sale in the hall, it has all the facilities to do this, a good earner too, some home made cakes etc, simple. I bring my own flask, drink etc, but people expect have the option to buy refreshments nowadays. I would have to think long and hard about doing this race again. Date of review: October 24, 2010

In short: An underwhelming race In full: Just seemed to lack any atmosphere at all, especially at the end. Some supportive marshalls round the course however. Date of review: October 24, 2010

In short: Could be better In full: Flat course so given no wind should offer pb potential. Prizes were a joke. 3rd place didnt even cover the cost of entry. Nice to have cash rather than vouchers. Nearly bought the guff when the organisers said they used to offer so much more in previous years but couldnt due to lack of sponsor. Its only the 2nd year of this race. Incorrect calls over tannoy saying I needed an ambulance mid race. Not true and caused unecessary worry to my friends/family. No tea/refreshments which has been picked up by previous posters. Lack of marshalls at certain points, but those who were there were very supportive - marshalls and spectators
Had the potential to offer so much more but in the end offered little Date of review: October 24, 2010

In short: Good if you want a persoanl best, I suppose In full: Got lost on last part of journey in, but bags of parking in field. Was a bit disappointed at the end as no hot drinks or food/cakes, which bearing in mind the organisers were in a hall, was a lost opportunity for them & a reminder to me next time to bring a flask & leave my money at home! Only couple of water stations. The route is completely flat for the first 5 miles & goes round fields, but then fortunately back into civilisation & then a few undulations and through the town for a while, before back out into the countryside. A bit of local support & hopefully that will build up in future years. By the way, what's the point of banning ipods if you then let runners wear them? Male runner in red vest & jacket said a few choice words at the start line as a marshall said they are not allowed & then ran with his! Hope to be back next year now I know where the place is.
