In short: A good race for all abilities
In full: For a small village, Portsoy does really well to put on this race at the same time as organising the Scottish Traditional Boat Festival. The entry fee includes free entry to the festival. A great run, a good route, friendly marshalls, plenty of water on a hot day and a great goodie bag at the end. You should try it.

In short: Well organised despite the monsoon!
In full: This was my second 'herring' and the second time I've nearly drowned doing it! The rain and wind were truely depressing, I got soaked through just sprinting 10yards from car to changing rooms. However, the organisation was excellent, much better than the last time I did this one. The team giving out numbers were really cheery and helpful. Spectators along the way were sparse, but all the marshalls cheered and clapped loudly for everyone, despite being wetter than anyone. The sea cadets at the finish line did their job of giving out goody bags (excellent content) and medals with no hitches and were also very cheery. The course itself is a good mix of shallow hills, tarmac and offroad, and with favorable weather could be quite a quick course.

In short: Very friendly race. Quite hilly in parts and small unexpected off-road section.
In full: I enjoyed this race despite the many factors which had the potential to make it a terrible day. The weather was awful but who can do anything about that? The course was moderately hilly in parts and unexpectedly went off-road for a small section which wasn't entirely pleasant as it was quite muddy, yet I still achieved a PB so it can be done! The race organisers forgot all the numbers and the medals, but improvised on the day by writing our numbers on our hands and sending out the medals after the event. The marshalls, to their credit, were cheery and friendly under their brollys, far more so than my spectators who stayed in their (dry) car! Could have done with a bit more warning for the finish line though. I wrongly assumed we were heading back for the car park and was keeping some energy for my final sprint. The course just seems to turn a corner and the finish line is suddenly upon you which doesn't give you much of a finish.

In short: Enjoyable race but course was more hilly than expected
In full: Well organised race in a very friendly atmosphere helped greatly by the link to the Boat Festival. The course is quite tough with a long hill in the middle and some strength sapping short hills and tight turns in the last 2k. The posted results seem to have missed some of the runners probably due to the congested finish area. Good fun though and will be back next year

In short: i see only some of us got chased by the cow, italian style!!
In full: I am recovering form a knee injury, so i was taking it slow but still had to stop because of the humidity. I looked like i had just jumped of the shower by the end (no i did not streek!)There was a few people passing out on the course, How can the north east get so hot?
All of us in the 46 min group got chased by a cow which had jumped a fence for the occasion about half way round, did make me go a bit faster!
Lovely country side and very pretty finish in the harbour, but as i am from there i could be biased

In short: Glad the boat festival was on
In full: Not a very exiting run in a fairly humid and warm day. The water stations and sponges were very important and well situated. There was a few casulties on the day and I hope they have recovered well. I nearly became a casualty myself when a car pulled out in front of me and I had to take evasive action. Plenty of martials which was good going through the town although one martial was standing at the wrong place and caused several runners to take a wrong turning.
Glad the festival was on. I enjoyed the food and demonstrations afterwards.

In short: Nice course. Well worth it
In full: I would have liked to have seen more runners but everyone was friendly and helpful. A nicer medal would have been better.

In short: Another great year
In full: Yet again a very enjoyable running experience. A bit on the warm side but 3 (yes, 3) water and sponge stations were a real help. Just like last year, a few of the counties bigger, more high profile races could do with a lesson or 2 from the organisers of this race. Very friendly atmosphere and a welcome to one and all. I would recommend this race to anyone and everyone, even if it was the opnly race you were ever planning on.
