In short: Excellent first time ultra In full: Another great race from the ultrarace team, thanks Jen and Rory. The route follows the canal the whole way with a couple of detours off where it is poss to go wrong/get confused but there were stickers put out. I made a couple of minor detours but no more than 100m at a time before realising I was wrong and I am the worse navigator. I wore trail shoes on day 1 as I wasnt sure how it would be. It was muddy in places but not deep and puddles could be tip-toed around so no wet feet at the end. I wore road shoes day2 as I wanted a new pair and more cushioning, they were equally as suitable.
There were 4 checkpoints with water, flapjacks, winegums and 9bars so no need to carry too much.
Excellent organisation and a good race to do as a first ultra due to it being flat and not much navigating needed. You had to keep your eye on bridge numbers to make sure you crossed at the right place. I got that wrong as well and had to climb over a lock!!
A good mix of speeds including some walkers so you dont need to worry about being at the back!
I will def be back next year! Date of review: January 24, 2011
In short: A good day out!!!! In full: A very well organised ultra, loved every min. Rory and the team were very friendly and encouraging. Toilets at start and finish always a + and a shower at the finish. Loved the t-shirt and medal. Thanks for a enjoyable day Date of review: June 8, 2010
In short: Opened my eyes to what life on a canal is like! In full: I ran both days. 90 miles along a canal is mentally tough without much to look forward to but another bit of canal! I did learn a lot about how canals work. I can't fault the organisation but it lacked a few touches that would have given it a 5. Excellent T that I am proud to wear. Date of review: April 11, 2010
In short: What a weekend!!! In full: I am relatively new to ultras and have never done a back to back run of this magnitude,so i have woken this morning to aches and pains i have never felt before, but they are nice pains. the race itself was a challenge and i salute all the proper runners along way ahead of me youre ability never ceases to amaze me. thanks to my running partner Jamiele who was a great motivation on sunday(we did it mate) and to all the crew on the checkpoints and to Rory and Jen thanks again. (new measuring wheel is on its way Rory) Date of review: January 25, 2010
In short: A really well organised Ultra. technical t-shirt was a nice touch, and loved the malt loaf at the aid stations! In full: I nice low key affair. No pretence just a straight forward get on with it ultra race. With around 60 starters tackling the 45 mile course the field soon strung out but conversation was good and the scenery kept up the interest. A great race! Thanks Rory!
