In short: Great alternative if you don't get in for London. Fab scenary and very friendly In full: This was my first marathon so nothing to compare it to, but everything was great. Commentator kept everyone smiling, volunters were encouraging, and small field made it easy to go at your own pace right from the start.
Very hot day as it apparently was the previous year so be prepared. 2 lap format can be a bit daunting for first time marathoners - especially seeing the signs with 23 / 24 when you've only on mile 10 or 11. The 2 laps did mean passing my supporters on 4 occassions though which was helpful for refreshments as no sports drink provided. They might want to re-think the water stops as they seemed a bit eratic with one at 3.5 miles and then a long gap before the chance of up to 4 water stops between 8-13 miles.
Applied for London next year but will definitely go for this one again if I'm unsuccesful. Date of review: May 4, 2011
In short: One to watch as a future favourite, I'll be back! In full: Great event, easy to park and start was within 50yds. 2 Loops worried me but actually broke the race into clear sections which were very satifying to complete and gave the opportunity to see club mates in front or behind you. Also worried about only water being available but there was plenty of it and plenty of places to leave food or drink on route. Sea views more than compensated for the brief dip into the industrial estate.
In short: last year I made the comment that the organisers would have to move up a gear if they wanted to earn the title of Great welsh marathon...........well I'm pleased to announce they did just that.........a brilliant race In full: I really enjoyed the change of corse this year...the two loops meant i could see allthe other runners on the course a few times and marvel at the speed of the front runners and admire the determination of those bringing up the rear.......a fast course and the weather once again was briliant for spectators if not a bit too hot for us runners.......only minor moan is that the water sation at the industrial end needs sorting....maybe have it just before the estate so that you can access it in both directions would have made the difference....but apart from that a big thank you to the organisers and the marshalls....My husband has already decided to do this next year so If not racing i will be supporting Date of review: April 13, 2011
In short: Low key but enjoyable In full: A race of two loops and limited support but I loved the fact that, due to the small field, I could run at my own pace right from the start, unlike other marathons. Course was scenic (except for a short section), fairly flat and well organised for a newish event. Didn't expect it to be so hot and could have done with another water station particularly with no shade anywhere on the course. May be back next year. Date of review: April 12, 2011
