In full: Echo the thoughts about too many runners for the course - I was happy with the bottle necks as I liked the "rest" (first marathon for a long while and I hadnt trained enough) but if I had been trying for a time it wouldnt be good, liked the mixed terrain and that it is oh so flat!- great water stops well stocked & never had to wait (running c4:15-4:30time) amazing good pre pace communications - we were told how the start would happen but clearly a lot of runners didnt read what they were sent & I heard a few rumbles but it felt Wrong. Not entirely sure the mile markers were all accurate but then it could have been my GPS. Good support at the end for those who needed it All round good experience Date of review: December 22, 2014
In short: Great organisation. In full: Pre race emails clearly highlighted the perils that awaited the runners!! Maybe too many runners for the course? Well marshalled and not too muddy. Shingle is tough for a non-trail runner like me. Managed a decent time in the end, but maybe congested behind
Might not run it again, only because I prefer pure road races, but gave it a go
In short: Flat and cheerful In full: This was my first marathon. I would get there earlier next time as it was super-busy at registration. Some parts were not scenic but the rest, running next to the sea and off road, were beautiful. The organisation was impeccable. There were plenty of water stations where there was a choice of water, energy drinks or gels and loads of 'pick-me-ups' including an endless supply of jelly beans. It was really well marshalled and plenty of help at hand for those who got in a pickle. I would do it again. Date of review: December 21, 2014
In short: Nice end of year race but too many runners for the course In full: I've done this for all five years the event has been on and its now a victim of its own success as the course simply has too many runners on it. I reckon I was held up for maybe 15 minutes at a bunch of bottle necks as too many runners on single track caused hold ups time and time again... probably fine if you're running 3:00 or 6:00 but for mid pack runners its basically just a training run as impossible to gain any kind of rhythm and the set up for 1500 runners the same as it was in 2010 for 300 odd. Aid stations too busy despite the best efforts of the very friendly and encouraging marshalls. The redeeming feature is the fact you get to see everyone on the out and back course but really not one of my favourite events at all I am afraid... Date of review: December 21, 2014
In short: my first half marathon race, great atmosphere In full: as my first race i was a little nervous about this, i set off like a rabbit at the front and quickly realized that i had got carried away by the atmosphere - ended up finishing in 1h39m which was ok considering this schoolboy error Date of review: July 21, 2014
In short: A well-run event, with generous goody-bag, excellent medal and a nice course. In full: The organisers had a few challenges due to storm damage on/near the sea-front but the race went ahead due to some good contingency planning. I enjoyed the run, saw plenty of sea-front and crashing waves (me being a land-lubber!). It was a very windy day but then the whole winter has been like that so we should be used to it by now! A great medal and very generous goody-bag topped the day for me. Date of review: February 25, 2014
In short: Great race - despite the wind! In full: Loved this event, organisers did a great job in ensuring it went ahead after the storms and the loss of the use of the Pyrmaid Centre. Great course and without the wind has the potential to be quick. Well marshalled, well supported, well packed goody bag and an excellent medal - what's not to like?
As a slight aside my non-running g/f who came to watch said that this was the friendliest race she'd ever seen me at.
I really can't fault this event Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: What a cracking race. In full: What is there not to like? It started on time, no rain, muddy beach wasn't too muddy, plenty of signs and marshalls, friendly runners, great goody bag and medal, plenty of parking, and a pb to boot!! An excellent day out (apart from the wind). I'll be back next year as without that wind I reckon I'll be 5 minutes quicker. Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: great run in pompey In full: very hard due to gale force winds which seemed to get worse rather than better as forecast but no rain!great race much improved from last year as Rob has addressed probs and then some. better signage and fantastic marshalling. welcome jelly beans and top notch goody bag! well done to all involved! will be back next year Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: A must do race. In full: You come away wondering how they do it for the money. One of the best medals, a jam packed goody bag and the optional tech tops are miles away from anything else I've seen. And the course is good too. Wind today was impressive. Anyone who's done the Great South will know the last 2 miles are tough - this race turns that stretch into 4 miles and manages to make the wind even stronger. Date of review: February 23, 2014
