In short: Very enjoyable run. My first race of the year and yet nearly did a PB.
In full: Lovely location. Could do with a water station mid way and better organization at the start. Otherwise, highly recommended run out with a nice medal. Looking forward to next year.

In short: Fast & flat run round the docks.
In full: 3 laps round Preston docks. Totally flat course.
Organisation at start was a bit chaotic, with the start of the fun run delayed as people still entering. Bit confusing at start of 5 miler as no-one seemed to know what direction we were running in! But a nice run around the docks, cheap to enter, & nice medals.
Maybe sectioning off the runners from the public in places would help. Several morons with buggies just pushed them out in front of me. With so many kids around for the fun run, perhaps sectioning the runners off would help. Did get a bit fed up of kids getting in the way, wandering around as I did the main run. It's tricky having the public & runners in such a small area.

In short: Poor organisation, but very fast!
In full: I feel a bit bad criticising this race seeing as it was for a very good cause, but it seems like the organisers were swamped by last-minute entries. This delayed the start by 10 minutes, and there was total confusion as to what was going on, especially when we heard the guy on the tannoy attempt to set us off even though he was half a mile away at the Ribble Pilot pub and we didn't even know what direction we were supposed to run!

On to the race anyway - a fast three-lap course around Preston Docks with decent marshalling. There was a lack of water during the race (didn't bother me but it may have for others....) but we got some at the end along with a medal, which for the entry fee was decent value.

It wouldn't take much to improve this race - race numbers sent through the post (I'd happily have provided a stamp addressed envelope for mine rather than having to join the huge queue at Carrefour with the last-minute entrants), a proper start with a klaxon to get us going, a water station at halfway, and possibly better cordoning off of the course.

Best of luck for next year and hope lots of money was raised for the charity.

In short: great new race
In full: great new race added this year. very cheap, and the proceeds going to a cracking cause.

very flat so great pb potential, just a couple of narrow points that may slow you down if a lot are bunched together. easy enough for beginners with no hills to worry about.

being around the docks was a nice change from the usual road running views, but with 3 laps the scenery never changed much. again this is good for beginners as they are not going off miles out in a loop so they are always close by to other runners (even if they are on a different lap).

good support, especially at the start with the mile fun run crowd still around. while they dwindled off, still a good support around the finish area with plenty of friendly marhalls offering encouragement.

hopefully this will be the 1st of a new annual event and not a one off.

In short: Enjoyed my first run out of 2010 - though running round in 3 loops is a bit yawny!
