In full: It's a good race with quite a fast field, I did 2hrs10 and was pretty much at the back so clearly good for fast times if you need someone quick to pace you. Only small criticism is that the marshalling around Richmond Green wasn't great, when I came up from the River, both times I wasn't sure if I was looking for a gap in the traffic or if the marshall was going to stop the traffic, I think I ended up dashing over in a gap whilst the marshalls were cheering and clapping - I think marshalls are there for both encouragement (which they were excellent for!) but also to ensure everyone crosses the roads safely. Not knowing for certain if they were looking for cars, or if I was, has to potential to be dangerous. I grew up in Richmond so I know my way round the Green but if you've never run in Richmond before those junctions can be a bit confusing. Date of review: September 15, 2014
In short: A well organised event with a pleasant route In full: The route is nice, with much of the race on footpaths or the canal towpath, and some on a reasonably wide pavement. The course is really flat so there is good PB potential, although the towpath might be a bit slower if very wet, depending on your shoe choice.
The event was well organised, with everything that you'd need: toilets, bag drop, etc. It is worth noting that the bag drop is outside so if it was raining then those whose bags weren't waterproof might have had disappointingly wet spare kit at the end!
If I race the route again then I might wear shoes with slightly more robust soles as I could feel the lumpy and stony surface of the towpath through my skimpy Brooks T7s. Date of review: September 15, 2014
In short: Very well organised by Energised Sports In full: Much improved from a few years ago - The route as ever is a good flat one - the marshalls were aplenty and very encouraging - good medal - good food and drink at the end - started on time - bravo. One minor issue - too few toilets, walked over to costa coffee for my pre race poo. Some runners missed the start I think. Big thanks to the st johns ambulance for attending - you never know when you might need them. Date of review: September 14, 2014
In short: Really enjoyed this race In full: I don't have a massive amount of previous race experience to compare this to but I had a great day and managed a solid PB on a very flat course. The tow path was fine, in my opinion, and overtaking was possible if you were patient and sensible. I quite liked the 'dump your bag and run' vibe and vaguely chaotic start. A good race that I will definitely do again next year, in the hope of shaving off a few more minutes. Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: Track/road half - well marshalled and friendly In full: excellent pre-race communication from organisers slightly let down by pre-race chaos at start line. Baggage store needed lots more volunteers to work properly. BUT the race was great - 2 loops which included several miles on the Thames towpath. Lots of very supportive marshalls too. In short: Very Well Organized Event In full: On the whole this event was very well organized. Slight delay at start. Weather condition ie very strong winds didn't help organizers. course and marshalls were great. results were up on the board as we completed the finish line which was great. Loads of goodies at the end. Would do it again. Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: Beginner friendly and lovely flat course. In full: A lovely run along the river path mixed with the streets of Richmond. Marshall's were great and crossing roads was no problem. Will be back and would consider other events by the same organizer. Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: After a poorly organised start, the organsiers redeemed themselves. In full: I entered this race as I'd read the reviews from the previous year and they were very positive. Upon arrival, the race number collection 'desk' was one lady sitting in her car with the door open, a queue nearly 13.1 miles long and lots of grumpy, cold runners. However, that was the worst part of the day and things did improve from there and I hope they'll learn from the late start that this caused and change it for next time. It's an interesting 2 lap course, partly park, partly pavement (mind out for the street furniture) and partly Thames path (trail shoes would have been a good idea), it did have some narrow parts and tight turns but there weren't really any bottle necks. The marshalls were very jolly and strategically well placed. There were cups of water and bottles too. The medal was unusual and the bananas, chewy bars and water were welcome at the end. I enjoyed the morning after the dodgy start and think the organisers were well-intentioned and as long as they learn from their mistakes, they'll organise more efficient starts in the future.
