In short: If you run in Devon expect hills.
In full: Not quite the undulating race I was expecting. The aptly name cemetary hill was a killer. Having to do it twice was horrific. Got lost at 25 miles, but little else to moan about. It's tough enough organising just one race, but fitting in a marathon, HM, 10k and fun run all in one event was a credit to all those involved.

Sadly I'll be doing Abingdon next year. The old legs cannot cope with the Devon climbs, also Oxfordshire is closer to London.

In short: Don't mention the hills!
In full: Scenic race in parts, with lovely views from the top of the hills - ok, so you have to go up them first, but hey, it all adds to the challenge.
Not a PB course, unless its your first one, but a good race well organised over a good route excellently marshalled, with a great atmosphere.

In short: Great morning - sub 3:30 in my first marathon! Couldn't ask for more.
In full: Thank you Dartmoor Vale!

These smaller events are so much more friendly. All volunteers were so encouraging, along with the police too - everyone went the extra mile (to coin a phrase!)

And the organisers even arranged perfect weather....

In short: I had a great first ever half here
In full: Did the half which was only my 2nd ever race (and first half)and what an introduction to it all. The weather was perfect which helps but although there was dull roady bits, there was much more lovely Devon countryside. At one point I was running along a leafy lane with the sun on my face grinning my head off!! I enjoyed the hills and on the half felt that they weren't too bad at all. I could see however how the one very long hill could play havoc for the full marathoners second time round especially as you know it's coming second time around!! Overall a fab day. Marshalls and police were lovely and everything was well organised. A great intro for racing for me, it left me wanting more!

In short: Undulating Course nice atmosphere
In full: My first 10k race, not chip timing but not a problem. Hot water for the post race showers would have been welcome especially on a cold day.

Very friendly atmosphere and reasonably well organised

In short: Fantastic event, really friendly & contrary to other's comments, got a PB of 1hr 36mins!
In full: Beautiful setting, undulating with one big climb before a big down hill for what felt like the whole of the final 6 miles (I'm used to terrible hills in Kingsbridge!).
Great organisers, will be back next year!

In short: I love running hills
In full: I knew this was going to be hilly, I just didn't realise how long the hills would be. They came back to bite me in the second lap, but I still managed a PB (by 5 seconds) and that's compared with the pancake flat course of Abingdon! The views in the second half of the course are lovely, the organisation was superb and the marshals and police were the friendliest I've ever encountered. I only do one marathon per year and as I'm aiming for variety, I'm unlikely to do this one again, but I can thoroughly recommend it.

In short: Cracking race, superbly organised.
In full: Well organised despite the best efforts of Royal Mail to scupper it. My entry arrived in the post today! No problems at the event though which is all that mattered. First timer, will definately come back, challenging but worth the effort for the views alone. Thanks to all involved, especially the friendly and encouraging marshalls.

In short: That was the hardest marathon I've ever "run"
In full: Even the bits billed as flat were rolling. The first long haul was OK, the next one was a real toughie. After that the undulations and downhills were challenging. The one that got me was at mile 12(+25), short, sharp and sapping. And then they all seemed to magnify on the second time around. The course beat me mentally.
However, the organisation was professional, the marshalling was top notch, the Policing was 100%, and the start/finish was very special. The countryside scenery "up top" was stunningly glorious, and I think that the organisers managed to mix a 10k HM and full M extremely well.
If you're after a time trial, forget it. If you want a tactical race, look no further. Someone has to win it, and a forumite did.
