In short: Brilliant In full: No PB's on this one, the first 4km is quite steep uphill, but then downhill. Very friendly race, scenery excellent, and really well organised. For me, one of the best races of the year. One of a couple of 'definites' on my race calendar. Date of review: May 10, 2015
In short: Superb and friendly 10k run - with the last 5k virtually all downhill! In full: These sort of races are the backbone - and the heritage - of British roadrunning and it's a shame that they are being squeezed out of existence due to the rise of big city events and Parkruns and police/council requirements in terms of road use. Anyway, this is a fab, well organised race with a lovely atmosphere. Unrelentingly uphill for the first 4.25 km then pretty much downhill all the way from there. My mile splits varied between 10m/m and 6.56 m/m which gives an indication of the terrain!
Very scenic, interesting and virtually traffic-free course and a cake sale in the hall! Good quality technical tee afterwards which is nice enough to wear again for training. Excellent children's fun run with a good quality medal What's not to like?
In short: Hilly but worth it! In full: This is my second time doing this race and I was chuffed as beat my previous time by 4 minutes! The hilly start was hard and was difficult to keep going (im usually a 9 minute miler) this must have been at least 10.30 Min miles for 2.5. However you can soon get your speed back up and get some beautiful views whilst your doing it. The only thing I was a bit upset about though was no medal. I love getting my medal at the end, but it was a t-shirt this year. I didn't even receive one of those as I applied on the day for the race,& limited supply, which is fine but at least a small discount would have been good. As really what am I paying for.Overall a lovely race but need to think about ALL finishers next year. Date of review: May 11, 2014
In short: Awesome race! In full: 700 foot climb up a hill then 700 foot sprint downhill. Well organised small race, friendly marshals and good atmosphere. Pity the carpark and finish were churned by the rain, but that wasn't really the organiser's fault! Date of review: May 11, 2014
In short: A hard start and then a very fast middle & end In full: This was my third time and I will be back again.
The first 4k is hard - make no bones about it. Its one long hill that goes to the 4k mark. Once you are there its flat/down for just about the whole of the remaining 6k.
For me I got my fastest mile, my fastest 1k and my fastest 5k. Unfortunately this was on top of a slow 4k at the start. For me it was about 3-4 minutes slower than a less severe 10k.
But its a great run, scenary is good, organisation is good. Its a smashine run and I will be back next year. Well done to everyone involved in making this such a super and friendly ittle run. Date of review: May 11, 2014
In short: 4k of steep hills, then very fast In full: This one goes uphill for a little over 2.5 miles, and a few people end up walking at some stage. Normally a 7 minute-miler, it took me 25 minutes to do that 2.5 miles. But then downhill all the way, and incredibly fast. No chance of a PB (+4 minutes for me) for the race as a whole, but you'll likely get a PB for the second 5k (I knocked 90 seconds off). Relaxed, friendly, excellent race. A definite for next year. In short: The first 4k is very tough all uphill and steep up hill at that. The climb to the top is worth it as the view is magnificent. Second half was a lot easier all down hill and a chance to get your time back. Lovely atmosphere with great support. Date of review: May 5, 2013
In short: Hard first 4km but really enjoyable and fast second half of the race In full: Course: As other people have said, the first 4km of the race is a series of ascents, with the hill between 2-3km being particularly brutal. Once up to the top though you can start relaxing and enjoying the scenary a little more (and making up for lost time). Probably one to add at least a minute onto your normal 10k time for, despite the extremely fast last 2k. Event: Well organised start on a wide piece of road, plenty of marshalls around the course and lots of water at the drinks stations at the finish (where a free banana was also handed out). Would be nice to see a race clock at the finish if they have more entrants next year. Date of review: May 8, 2012
