In short: Excellent race
In full: This was my first Ultra and what an introduction! Hard but very rewarding. Will run again next year :-) Everyone was friendly, the staff, the volunteers and the fellow runners.
Well done Marlborough Running Club.

In short: A great introduction to trail ultras
In full: Had a smashing time on the MDS last Sunday, as a first time the prospect was quite daunting but the organisers and fellow competitors were brilliant. The route was mostly well marked out and the checkpoints were wonderfully frequent and very welcome! Staffed by very friendly and cheery souls too. Helped through the final third by buddying up with Laura who despite her comments actually dragged me to the finish line! Meeting a total stranger and nattering your way through the pain to the finish line seems a perfect way to describe this friendly yet challenging and super-enjoyable ultra. More please!

In short: An excellent race.
In full: My third occasion of entering this event.Without a doubt a big challenge which makes it so very satisfying to complete the course. I ran as a group of three and on behalf of us all a really big 'thank you' to the marshals who were all helpful and understanding despite some having to wait a long time at their point. Lovely countryside and well organised. Thank you Marlborough for a very rewarding yet tiring day.

In short: Small and friendly yet hard core
In full: First ultra for me too yesterday and walked almost all the hills but ran the rest, the last few miles thanks to great support from fellow first timer Stewart -thanks again! Gorgeous views through the bluebell woods and from the downs, stunning tour of the best bits of the Marlborough downs. Not too dry and not too wet underfoot, and we were reminded at the start that if we could finish in under 4.5 hours we might not get wet. Ha ha. Excellent organisation with start and finish near Leisure centre. Plenty of checkpoints with hardy and lovely souls manning them. Bananas and coke please! I think the half a bourbon biscuit at checkpoint 7 finished me off. Piece of cake to naviagate having gone over the map beforehand and using the excellent route directions. Didnt even need to look at them until the field thinned a lot by the canal stretch. Great days run, great event, well done and thanks Marlborough running club, you have set the bar very high with this one.

In short: A hard day but well worth it.
In full: Another brilliant day thanks to Marlborough RC. My 4th time at this classic event with fantastic views, friendly marshalls, Jaffa cakes & encouragement from all the friendly runners who picked me off as the run progressed. Navigation wise.....everything was superb until driving home & finding myself half way to Swindon instead of Hungerford Doh!!!

In short: Excellent, well organised event and good introduction to Ultra Running
In full: My fourth turn out for this excellent and well organised event. While the 2 miles through the bluebell woods were easier this year, (no mud!), the 7 miles along the Wansdyke were into the teeth of a strong south westerly. Not sure which I prefer! Many thanks to all the cheery marshals, especially those at checkpoints 6 and 8 where it was exposed, windy and raining when I plodded through.... much appreciated guys. Oh - and so nice to have piping hot showers at the end! Usually when I finish the water is stone cold.

In short: A real challenge for a first ultra
In full: Overall a very well organised challenge, excellent course with fantastic scenery and plenty of variety of terrain.
Well placed checkpoints with friendly supportive marshals, i would have quite liked some bananas rather than biscuits and jelly babies at the checkpoints though. but that is my only gripe.
A great momento for finishing.
An excellent event and great value, i'll definitley be back.

Well done Marlbough Running Club..

In short: Super scenery for ultra beginners
In full: It's a long way to run for a mug - albeit a very nice one. Although a seasoned marathon runner this was my 2nd ultra and is a demanding run over some energy sapping terrain. That said, there are glorious views to enjoy and the bluebell woods near the start were beautiful. Navigation is straightforward as the route description supplied could only be described as impeccable. Just don't assume that those ahead of you are taking the correct route.
My only gripe is that I would have liked some chopped bananas or oranges at the checkpoints rather than just biscuits.
Well done to Marlborough Runners and thanks.
