In short: Lots of organisational issues here with traffic and spectators on the course, long queues to pick up race numbers, not enough loos; marshalls indifferent to people double parking and, most of all, no water until 7k by which time it was too late In full: I have lots of issues with this race.
Right from the start some ignorant woman double parked behind me, blocking me in. When I approached a Marshall, all I got was a shrug of the shoulders and complete indifference. I had to go and sort her out myself when I should have been concentrating on getting my race number etc.
As for the race numbers, the queue was very long, in the open, and badly organised (ie not in alphabetical groups which slowed things down) - ok on a warm day but what if it had been cold day and pouring with rain? We all get soaked hanging around for our numbers.
There was no water until the 7k mark on a warm day (nearly 20 degrees). What were you thinking, organisers? By 7k it's far too late.
On approaching the finish I was sandwiched by an ambulance in front of me (not treating anyone or on their way to an emergency I hasten to add - it was just cluttering up the route on its way to the finish line) and a car trying to get through from behind.
On entering the final run-in there were spectators with bikes and pushchairs walking straight across the route in front of the runners. I mean, COME ON Organisers! - keep spectators OFF the approach to the finish - all it needs is some stakes and tape down the finishing straight - job done.
This would have been a great race apart from these issues which were very annoying - I drove 60 miles from Birmingham to run in this event, running the first 5k as a time trial and jogging the rest in preparation for the MMAC 5k Championship track event on June 8 but I should have saved my petrol.
In short: Flat, scenic, enjoyable race In full: My 2nd time at the Event having previously run it in 2011. This is a fast, flat, mainly off-road route taking in the scenic Elvaston Castle and Country Park and surrounding areas.
Previous comments mention the change of car park but I echo that this was well communicated and controlled on race day and a sensible 5 minute delay to the start time was allowed to ensure everybody made it.
The route is slightly different to what I remember from 2 years ago but it generally fast and flat and good weather will always give an opportunity for a fast time.
A vast improvement from my last run here is the technical t-shirt on offer - Great job. Once suggestion for improvement is that there should be a longer run-off area once you cross the finishing line. The run finishes on a fairly narrow path and with spectators and well wishers either side it can easily get congested.
Overall this a great and well established event. Excellent value with a quality t-shirt. Well done Sinfin. Date of review: June 6, 2013
In short: Good stuff! In full: Very good race at a great venue. Only have 1 issue - the end always seems to lack atmosphere and seems a bit of an anti climax. The rest is perfect though, can't fault it. Date of review: June 3, 2013
In short: Great race on a beautiful day In full: Even without the fact that I did a massive PB today I would recommend this race. Lovely scenery, flat course and excellent marshalling. Date of review: June 2, 2013
In short: Nice day out in the country In full: Good communication from the organisers letting us know by email of the change to car parking which led to to a good warm up and down as it was a good 10 to 15 minute walk to the start and back again. Presumably this was because of the previous week's rain so not their fault. The course is enjoyable ranging from going through the shady woods, up through the castle courtyard and its cobbles then out in to the sunshine along the river and back which is all quite flat. Dissapointed at the finish though as they'd run out of t-shirts for us slower runners. The guy said they expected to run out due to the high number of on the day entries, mmm, they did redeem themselves though by promising to send it on. Still enjoyed the event and will do it again, thanks guys. Date of review: June 2, 2013
