In short: a challenge for sure with that hill to do 3 times !! In full: Yes it was a scenic run but must agree with other comments about the marshalls, not all of them encouraged you and some looked as if they really didnt want to be there ! It was quite expensive and as i live 200 miles away from Lingfield the pass for the races wasnt personally ideal but a nice gesture !! Chip timing would be better as obviously not everybody crosses the start line at the same time so unless you are timing yourself your final time isnt correct. Overall i thought it was a good race, would do it again if i was in the area at that time !! Date of review: June 22, 2010
In short: At last - a t-shirt that fits! In full: I have to say I am disappointed with my fellow runners comments on this race as I thought it was very well organised. Plenty of parking which was well signposted, plenty of loos, friendly helpful organisers, great marshals, t-shirts from size small to extra large so everyone got one which fitted and judging by the number of runners wearing theirs after the race a lot of people were very pleased with them. As a regular race goer to Lingfield that free racing ticket is worth £20 on a racing with music evening - why don't you go along "Teacher Paul" you might just find you enjoy yourself!
This was a fab off road race and obviously the scenery was all race track BUT if you enter a race at a race course what else were you expecting?
I can't comment on the distance as I didn't have my Garmin on and was running for the pleasure of being allowed to run on race course property rather than worrying about a PB.
Please don't knock the marshals guys as without them we couldn't race. They appeared to be race course security guards rather than runners who have given up their day to help and were probably paid which could have been reflected in the entrance fee. Overall these guys were encouraging and supportive.
Well done Inmotion Sport - a thoroughly enjoyable race.
In short: 10km (plus 300m) meant no PB but a fun run nevertheless In full: I'll get the disappointing bits out of the way first. Was it just me or was the race well over 10km. Infact by an extra 340m. This meant I was outside my PB despite being well under pace for the whole time. All km markers were close to my watch 1kms except the 10km. According to my watch I did a PB so I'm going with that. Other than that I really enjoyed this cross country run. The most challenging bits were the small hill (run 3 times) with the longish grass, the short sandy path and the woodchip in the paddock. The woodland area was great as was the bouncy paddock path. The race was pretty well organised but as has been mentioned there was not much support from the marshalls and the atmosphere was fairly flat despite several areas for spectators to get behind their runners. Other than that, I would definitely do this one again and not just because it's near to home. The multi-surface laps made it interesting and despite a field of only 210 there always seemed to be runners nearby to pass or like me, to be passed by. This was my wifes' first 10k and she throughly enjoyed it. Hopefully she too now has the bug.
In short: Pleasant course with nice touches In full: A nice race for those who may not have taken part in a run before, and nice even if you have. A nice change to have a few different surfaces under foot in a nice part of SE England. A bit expensive given there wasn't the promised chip timing and NO food facilities! It really did need something at the end because people were more than willing to cheer on others but with only the lone cappucino truck with nothing to eat, there wasn't a lot of reason to stay. The security staff doing the marshalling were good, especially the guys on the last gate into the finishing straight. Some weren't interested in offering any encouragement but that's a minor point. Certainly worth trying and if the organisers can get some catering on board, it would make it even better. Well done for a first effort! Date of review: June 20, 2010
In short: FLAT, FAST RUN WITH ZERO ATMOSPHERE In full: Flat and fast with ok scenery if you like horse race tracks. Well organised and loads of marshalls but.... small field so I ran pretty much on my own, the marshalls offered no encouragement and I EVEN HEARD ONE MARSHALL OVER THEIR WALKIE TALKIE SAY "THE PROBLEM IS MOST OF EM CAN'T EVEN RUN." for the (quite high)cost of the entrance you got a bottle of water, free ebtrance for 1 to race day (which means you spend more money, so not really a gift) and a naff t-shirt. We were promised chip timers but that never happened and at the end of the race you just ambled off! If you live locally, have enough money and want a fast time then go for it. If you want a fun run with a good atmosphere then don't bother! Date of review: June 20, 2010
