In short: Events Company v Running Club organisation? In full: I live locally and it was a reasonable first attempt. Felt like they were trying to cover too much. Race, fun run, getting people active, all starting at the same time.
Positives:
- High number of entries for first running - car park, changing facilities and toilets, track to warm up and cool down - Good atmosphere and spectators at start / finish
Negatives:
- aerobics instructor warm up. delayed the start. Runners had already warmed up. Flinging arms in close proximty not advisable. A lot of people did not do and it was getting embarassing.
- Never mind quality and availabilty, didn't even see a water station on the run!
Improvements:
- Review course. Tight, twisting start, even if delay fun runners. Agree not quite 10k on my Garmin. Why not finish around the track in the Staduim

In short: Dreadfull organisation but has lots of potential. In full: Late to start. Chaotic at start, with 10K and fun run starting together and very narrow area just after start - no chance of a PB ! Ran out of water on course and at finish. Hillier and more 'cross country' than expected (a good thing, but could have been clearer in pre race info). Lots of potential, but badly executed. Disappointing not to make use of facilities - e.g. running around the track to finish. Fun run 1/4 of price, but got goodie bag, whereas 10K only got a poor quality Tshirt. Very disappointing. In short: A few teething problems being their 1st race, but had a great feel to it. In full: Set up was great, many, many people doing their 1st 10k. A real fun feel to it.
For the more serious runner, you would need to get to the front as the first 2k is very, very tight making it hard to overtake. It is a trail race.
They were apparently let down on the day with the water, so did their best in the circumstances. It was fairly cool so during the race I don't think you really needed to take on any water.
Off road course, with inclines and sharpish bends mean that this isn't going to be P.B. material although having said that, I made it 400m short on course length which did give plenty a new P.B. Date of review: July 26, 2010

In short: Potential to be good - was a farce. In full: Was just about to write an indepth review - but instead a few thoughts on how to make it better: - Start on time - Drop the "warm up". It wasted valuable time and was largely ignored - Don't start the fun run and 10k at the same time. - Decide whether it's a race, a fun run or a walk (there were people in jeans or carrying draw-string bags who clearly did not intend on running. - Provide proper water stations. - Ensure there is adequate water at the finish line. If you can't provide for all runners - then don't accept so many entrants on the day.
Having said that it was a nice course - just a shame that a lot of us couldn't start to run until about 2 miles in. Date of review: July 26, 2010

In short: a splendid race and look forward to doing it again In full: Having read the other reviews I cant understand why some people are being so picky. This was a well organised event and as a first event I thought all those involved did a great job. As for the fun race then yes it maybe needs to start 5 mins after the 10k and I assume that the organisers will be thinking about this for next year. For those who complain of poor water stations then maybe you are not ready to be running a 10k, in those conditions there is no need whatsoever to be taking on water. The martials were all brilliant and the scenery is excellent. Someone mentioned that there were some hill, well yes there are but they are not what I would call a problem and come on why do some people expect a course with no hills? Will be back next year and if it was on next week then I would be pleased. Date of review: July 26, 2010

In short: Well marshalled and excellent HQ In full: I entered this race as it is only half an hour from my mum's and was really glad I did. The Leigh Sports Village is a brilliant HQ with easy parking a fantastic track to warm up on and the best toilet facilities I have ever seen at a race - no queues at all !
I have never run in the area and thought it was a lovely course - mostly on trails. The course was very well marshalled with plenty of marshals at all key points - all very enthusiastic.
I have seen that some people had issues with water but to be frank if you need water on a 10k (and I quite appreciate people do) then you should carry it with you and not rely on the organisers.
The finish along a good tarmac path was great for a final kick.
My only negative comment would be that I don't think the warm up with the dance girl was a good idea for the main race - people have carried out their own warm-up and don't want to be held up by a non-running specific warm up. A very minor quibble though and this is definitely in my calendar for next year. Date of review: July 25, 2010

In short: A lot of first time teething problems need sorting out In full: the start was too congested, that is after everybody had to listen to somebody trying to "warm everyone up". Please organisers, forget that next year. Fun runners mixed in with 10km runners and hardly any room, it took at least 2km to get any real running space. The "water stations" were just two big water barrels with taps, no chance of getting a drink. Good points.......cheap, stewards generally cheerful and encouraging, a lovely scenic run, traffic free.

In short: JUST DONE IT! Really enjoyed the first 10k run at Leigh Sports Village 10k! In full: Really enjoyed the 10k today- well organised and a great atmosphere! Loved the course, good variety and nice views! All the marshallls were helpful and encouring! Pleased with my time 1.06. Would definately take part next year- well done to everyone who participated! A real community event, with lots of money raised for charity and local causes....!!! Date of review: July 25, 2010

In short: A few first tim teething problems, a challenging course, but welcome addition In full: Perhaps rethink the start as a little congested, and might think about providing more water next time.
Nice to run around the Flash. Course was challenging, but well worth turning up for. Date of review: July 25, 2010

In short: Poor organisation spoiled a potentially good event In full: The Sports village is a fabulous venue for a 10k, and the availability of the track to warm up on, changing rooms and easy parking were excellent. For a first time event there was a good field and atmosphere pre-race. The route was a mix of canal towpath and hard packed trail routes through the attractive scenery of Pennington flash. A few testing inclines made it a bit of a challenge, even if it does mean that this isnt really a PB course: too many sharp turns and congestion for that.
And then came the negatives.... 2010 fun runners et off at the same time as the 10k runners which made a congested first few miles considerably worse. This was compounded by the fact that the fun run route diverged from the 10k route, causing chaos as the youngsters had to cross the path of faster runners to keep to their course: an idiotic course decision that has to be scrapped for next year. Hopefullly no-body was hurt but that would be through good luck only.
The water station amounted to a couple of hard pressed marshalls, a small table and not a chance in hell of providing water for the 500 runners coming through. This was simply not good enough and needs a lot more thought and effort for next year.
All in, this event has potential to be a bigger, and better event, but the organisational problems need addressing. Date of review: July 25, 2010
