In short: Muddy but very pretty, I'll be back! In full: Really enjoyed this race- travelled about 70 miles to run on the recommendation of a work colleague and was not disappointed. The route was definitely 'undulating' (even had a sneaky walk up the hill just before the three mile point- carrying extra mince pies and Christmas Pud was definitely a factor) but nothing horrendous and there was plenty of mud, which is always fun. Scenery was stunning and the weather was very kind. Organisation was excellent, marshalls super friendly and encouraging. There seemed to be a lot of club runners but I would say that it was ordinary runner/beginner friendly too. No headphones allowed though so practice without if you are a beginner- plenty to look at to keep you occupied though! Goody bag was excellent. the race cost £13 to enter ( i think) and we got a proper sports bag (the over the shoulder types) which had a protein bar (worth £2), a pair of 'Hilly' gloves and a £5 Sweatshop voucher in, as well as the usual leaflets etc. will be back next year! In short: I would like to try and do it for the first time because I didn't get to do it when it was scheduled!! In full: I checked the website several times the day before the event (because of various weather forecasts) and checked it at least four times up to 9 A.M on the day of the run. I then drove 58 miles looking forward to a mid Christmas clear out only to find the race had been cancelled at ridiculously short notice!! Thank you Ripon. Date of review: December 29, 2010
In short: a challenging mix of road and off road tracks and fields In full: A well organised race going through the grounds of Fountains Abbey with a tough hill leading onto a very wet and muddy field section. It certainly clears the head after the overindulgences of Xmas definately one to do again in 2007 Date of review: January 12, 2007
In short: Just the thing to blow off the (sprouts?) christmas cobwebs In full: Glorious sunshine, good support and fabulous scenery. Just the thing to offset the roast dinner(s) over christmas. A good mix of tarmac and off-road with a decent amount of mud this year.
Will definitely do it again next year... see you there! Date of review: December 31, 2005
In short: What a killer, was feeling fit before this race with a couple of recent PB's under my belt, now i'm not too sure. Still Enjoyed it tho & will be back next year. Date of review: December 27, 2005
