In short: Loved this race for years and will certainly be back In full: Tough course but lovely summertime race, wonderfully organised in a great location with fish and chips readily available. Organisers worked through the long queue waiting to pick up numbers extremely efficiently and remained chipper throughout - not an easy task. Loved being name-checked as I crossed the finish line - made me feel like a proper athlete! Thanks Deal for a great day. Date of review: August 3, 2014
In short: Fun challenging 10k by the sea as part of Deal regatta...what's not to like: the town was buzzing In full: Excellent challenging course with hills and heat, great support by very friendly marshalla and great finish line atmosphere from town numbers swelled by Deal regatta.I haven't done any 10KS this year since moving over to marathons but there is a reason why this is the 10K that I just had to do. Well done to the organisers! Date of review: July 29, 2014
In short: Crowd-lined finish with commentator calling your name as you cross finish-line was exhillarating :) In full: Lots of family & Club support, marshalls were MAGNIFICENT and were so cheery & encouraging (I didnt say 'thanks' anywhere near enough as needed the oxygen to breathe - hills!- but thank you for those continuous, frequent words of optimism, even when I didnt feel so great!) Got my number without fuss, timing chip easy to attach, all pretty straightforward. Things to improve? I personally CANNOT drink out of cups whilst running but on the plus-side got a nice refreshing face-wash (twice over) during the race. Perhaps the organisers would consider one drinks station at the midway point with bottled water instead of 2 with difficult cups? The kids race started with people still meandering over the course route, most completely unwittingly. A small H&S matter maybe but not a thing to moan about by any means. Probably the thing I heard moaned about the most was the 2 loos for the women. Considering the size of the event (plus spectators), this was woefully inaqequate and of course, lacked loo-roll by the time we managed to get in at 9.50am, panicking at no warm-up. All in all, really enjoyed the event, fish'n'chips, ice cream, a nice medal and PB whilst having my kids cheer me on really made my day. Thanks Deal Tri for laying on a really enjoyable event.....horrid hills tho! ;) Date of review: July 28, 2014
In full: I agree with comments reported so far. The race start/finish area needs attention, especially where queues formed (collecting race numbers) from inside scout hut to where children were finishing their race. Water was hard to see at end - i missed it. No real problems for myself with marshalling. Really good announcer made all finishers feel special. Date of review: July 28, 2014
In short: If organisation improves would return... Dire organisation a real shame! In full: People allowed to walk over race for example children racing people still queuing to get numbers over where they run!! An accident waiting to happen, out on the road Marshall's in some places didn't stop traffics and had the power to do so.. At finish hunt your water!! Should be first thing hands out and made more obvious.. A real shame as for organisation and two public toilets with only 2 toilet rolls ??????????extremely hot day needed more water..
In short: A great race with cheerful and supportive marshalls In full: Only improvement would be better crowd control at the end as those runners coming in later often had to negotiate spectators who had seen their runner finish who then wandered into the middle of the promanade oblivious to the fact there were still runners heading straight towards them.
