In short: Very flat trail marathon around the canals of Birmingham In full: Having done a number of these LDWA challenge events I knew what to expect and as usual these events are very well organised by dedicated walkers/runners.
As usual you get a set of instructions to follow, there were some route markings, but these were fairly few and far between and as the organisers pointed out, perhaps not to be relied upon with the "sense of humour" of some locals!
The route was fairly straightforward and the instructions good, for anyone who has done these events before, then these instructions were simpler and clearer than some! i.e. follow canal for 3.8 miles... for runners certainly easier to follow than many.
Check points were very well stocked with sandwiches, biscuits, toast etc and more cakes than Mr Kipling at the third one, could have happily stood there for half an hour! lol
Incredibly good value for money. I made the route 27.2 miles on my Garmin - http://connect.garmin.com/activity/50158044
Certaily hope to be back! Date of review: September 23, 2010

In short: Different!................ In full: That was my first LDWA marahton, and I have to say I really enjoyed it. As a first timer in such an event I found the map reading a little tricky, therefore it wasn't such a surprise that I ended up doing an extra mile! Next time I would take a water bottle, as there were only 4 water stations (check points) and with it being quite a warm day, I got pretty thirsty!
The course was great, you certainly saw Birmingham in a different light, and at only £8 it was a real bargain. Date of review: September 20, 2010

In short: Fantastic Event In full: I've done a lot of the LDWA events over the past couple of years, and they are usually excellent.
Happily this was no exception.
Very cheap, well organised, well stocked with food and vert friendly.
Lots of canals, and some interesting heritage alongside the route.
Thoroughly enjoyed it as a walker, and got a new Walking Marathon PB.
Many Thanks. Date of review: September 19, 2010
