In short: Great run on the whole!!! BEST MEDAL EVER !!!! In full: What a great day i had ,yes the course was changed slightly but after talking to the organisers i found it was because of the heavy ice we had during the week and again after talking to the event team found there was no flags for the start and finish as the water was turned off at the site which is needed for the flag bases. As for refreshments ,there was amples of water taking in account the water was turned off and lots of chocolate biscuits .Also i arrived early at about 10:00 and i didnt have to pay parking as i beat the gate staff ,so maybe if everyone got up a bit earlier they could of got away for free too. Why is everyone moaning at the medals ....BEST MEDAL EVER ....i have had alot worst even my one from mercedes world run didnt have a time on it ..well signed ..easy to follow ,encouraging marshells .My friends and i are going to be doing lots more of ultramarathon's forthcoming events.Ok they could of done with more backing from the park to help make the day even better however i understand this was out of ultramarathons control .As for the price i believe it to be fair seen as they have to pay marshals ,the park ,red cross etc ....forgot to say safety markings for roads etc =loads .Clear instruction where given at the start of the race however i saw many runners with headphones in even though it clearly said in the pack not to wear them. In short: A good start to my running year In full: This is the fourth event I have entered with Ultramarathon and again I had a good day.
It was unfortunate the park's water supply had been turned off throughout most of the park due to the weather. This apparently was the reason for not having their start/finish flags up. ( Flag bases needed water).
I still had a cup of water on each lap and at the end a cup of orange and a chocolate biscuit . Not the orgainisers fault park facilities weren t open. It doesn t matter where I enter a run there are always parking charges.
I left my bag along with lots of others in one of the marshals cars, where it was kept warm and dry. Thankyou again ULtramarathon, I believe your 2012 New Years day event will be at Stanwick Lakes, could you confirm this as I will be attending, oh a great unique medal....thanks Happy New Year Date of review: January 3, 2011
In short: Terrible race In full: An absolute masterclass in how not to do things. I will never complain about minor organisational shortcomings again, after this dog's breakfast.
Route nothing like as advertised, and certainly not traffic free. Two quid to park, and it wasn't a cheap race to start with. No mile markers, no safety signs, no changing area, no baggage store, no refreshments, no gun, no start or finish line (you think I'm making this up, right?). Tatty medal with no date, place or distance on it.
Fair play to the marshals for doing their best in difficult circumstances - exploited as much as the runners, I suspect.
Just read the reviews of the Half-mara which all say the same thing. Short of getting hit by a car, I can't see how I could have had a worse time.
In short: In the words of Comic Store guy "Worst race ever" In full: Where do I start? Well I paid £17 then had to pay for car park on top. Don't mind if it's in the entry fee. Where was the start & finish? No caution runner signs or route markers. The split at the bridge was very confusing. The lady marshal did a very good job but with three routes there should have been some signs as well. For the price I paid thought the medal was shabby, should at least had the venue on it and there was no goody bag, even a drink and a chewy bar would have been ok. I know it was New Years Day but surely the park could have opened one tea bar as there was nowhere to get refreshments or much shelter for spectators. It was a nice run and the marshals did a good job. Date of review: January 1, 2011
In short: where was the start and finish line guys? In full: Well that has to be the worst finish line i have ever seen!!your sprinting to the line then u have a finish tight in sum treesnice one lol,i done a really good and was really happy with that, but my god for 20 quid drinks, goodie bag etc maybe its a real shame it could be good fun. one guy got whacked with a brolly from sumone walking and fell on his arse. i think two many races 5k,10k and half was all to much on one day.
In short: Shambles In full: Terrible from start to finish, no real start line or finish line. No mile markers or high vis safety signs. The route was dire despite the name of the race suggesting a run around wickstead. I know it's new years day but no where was open so no where to wait or have a cuppa. The medal was ok but it was the same for 5k 10k and half, one saving grace was the very few marshalls were very good especially the kids! Date of review: January 1, 2011
