In short: Great race - pity about the weather
In full: CRUK events are very special. This was my first ever 10k. I can see from other reviews that it wasn't quite 10k though it seems to be up from the 8.8 of previous years. I didn't bother with the water at the half way mark as I had my own bottle, but they were giving out water at the beginning so I don't think there would be any reason to be dehydrated even if you didn't like the cups. There wasn't a goodie bag, or if there was, I didn't get one - I had a medal, cereal bar and some sweets given to me as I came out of the finish funnel. CRUK events are about raising money and remembering loved ones, but this is a lovely course and I was pleased with my time, even if the course was a touch on the short side. It's certainly good for beginners - some ladies were coming through the finish 2 hours after the start - I wondered if they'd stopped for a cup of tea half way round! The only downside was getting out of the car park - a complete nightmare. I suggest using the train. As we have Historic Royal Palaces membership we gave up and went into the palace for lunch. When we came back the cars had gone, but you have to be careful because they start closing the gates and it would be a long walk round the outside. But overall a great day.

In short: Not a full 10km, but friendly atmosphere and nice goody bag
In full: Our gps watch showed 9.8km, definitely not a full 10km. Still, despite the muddy track it was a nice race and well organised. Good cause and great goody bag :-)

In short: only 9.7km on half a cup of water
In full: My GPS watch showed 9.7 km at the finish. All the dodging and puddle jumping should have addded at least 100 metres so there was somethimg wrong with the race distance.
The only water point during the race was at the 5km marker and they were giving out plactic cups (you know the mini ones from the office water cooler). Mine was half full. What's wrong with giving out the .33cl bottles like on the London Ascics 10k. Maybe they didn't want the empty bottle litter but they had that at the finish line (where they gave out 500 ml bottles).
On the plus side the final leg through the palace inner grounds was great.
In summary - a run for a worthwhile cause but lacking the fundamentals of a good race. I'll skip it next time.
