In short: The perfect trail race? In full: This was my first ever race 10 years ago, since then I've done hundreds of other events, but there is something very special about this race. Great scenery, great organisation, fantastic marshals, not a PB course by any standards, but a great race to go out and have a blast, good family fun at the event base, free parking, great facilities......every runner should do this event at least once to see how good things can be! In short: Great course, great organisation, great fun! In full: Not a pb course, but it doesn't advertise itself as one. Great off-road route with trails, track and stiles to add to the fun! Good to know that all proceeds go to support the amazing work of St Giles Hospice. Kids' races, 5k race, bouncy castle and barbeque make this a great day out for the family. In short: Off road trail race In full: A long established event and so it is very well organised and marshalled and with other supporting races on top of the main 10k event, this makes for a good family day out catering for all abilities.
This is 100% off road and although it is relatively flat, there are areas of long grass, narrow trails and even stiles making a PB time very unlikely. I finished 2 minutes slower than my average 10K time this year.
One major thing that disappoints me is that the organisers don't appear to obtain a UKA or ARC race licence for this and so the results will not appear on runbritain / power of 10 or on the ARC equivalent site. This will impact whether I choose to come back again in future years.
That aside it is a great event. Date of review: July 1, 2013
In short: Great race, loved it, will be back next year In full: My 3 year old daughter especially liked the 400m kids race as most fun runs are a bit too far for her. The course was tough but fun, loved the gates for a bit of variety and it was a bit hot for me but great for spectators. Date of review: June 30, 2013
In short: Enjoyable race In full: Shame about the course change but good organisation to manage the situation caused by the weather. Overall excellent organisation and something for everyone on the day. Date of review: July 31, 2012
In short: Well organised, family friendly, fun event In full: A big thank you to everyone involved in making this run happen after all the bad weather, thanks to all the marshalls who encouraged everyone & a very good goody bag at the finish. Will be back next year. Date of review: July 2, 2012
In short: Fantastic family race(s) In full: Well done to the organisers. Our first Gate Gallop and the first time all of our four children have taken part in races together. Kicked off with the three youngest running the 400m children's race; I ran with the eldest in the 4.4K; and husband did the 10K. Well organised, great atmosphere and organises did their best to adapt a flooded route. Packed goody bags and good medals- especially important for the little ones, but pleased us too! See you next year... Date of review: July 1, 2012
In short: Excellent race In full: I love this race and would do it every year. Heat was an issue for some this time. Scenery is lovely, fields of cornflowers and poppies! I would like more gates/styles for the challenge, but suspect this is just me. Date of review: June 30, 2011
