In short: my favourite autumn race In full: This race is worth doing just for the view on top of okeford hill looking out over north Dorset. Seemed more entrants this year so prehaps word of mouth is spreading. Perfect conditions this year. Who needs the great south run? Will always want to do this race!
Ps if anyone found a black grey turquoise aldi running sock probably on the grass behind the church hall its mate is pining.... Date of review: October 28, 2015
In short: Tough but strangely fun in a masochistic way! In full: The Hills were very steep but the downs made up for the ups! loved the finish in the delightful Shillingstone station yard. good organisation at the start, plenty enough facilities, good marshalls, good signage. Dont do this race if you hate hills and the chance of Mud! the 'rabbit holes' sign made me smile, no idea why (hysteria by that point i think!) and I ran down the last hill laughing :-) lovely scenery and varied terrain. In short: Great race in ideal conditions and hard as you like... In full: I've done this race twice before and knew what to expect. Didn't help though the three big hills are still very challenging. The first one, before you've really warmed up always leaves me knackered and with 8 more miles to go... There is a stated 1500 ft of ascent in the race and I certainly believe that. The race was very well organised and well marshalled. My only negative is one that is quite specific to me (and a few others). Not every runner is slightly built and the trend in T-shirts, especially technical ones, seems to be that they come up short. As it is the XL I received is way too small (and I was not the only one). It seems unfair that we don't get to wear the T-shirt after completing the race. Please please organisers - consider the larger runner! Date of review: October 27, 2014
In short: It's the pint that thinks it's a quart In full: Same as always....in a good way. Great to have Shillingstone railway station as the focal point - parking, quaint café, finish point. Course is still a great test of fitness (1900ft'ish of climb and 90% off-road). 3 water stations - plastic cups. Always an excellent memento - this year a rather nice yellow tec-tee. Great value for money. Date of review: October 26, 2014
In short: Must be great, I come back every year. In full: Tough race, but very satisfying, particularly when it's all over. Special mention and thanks to the brilliant marshalls, it really makes a big difference to the runners. Date of review: November 3, 2013
In full: I have a love/hate relationship with The Stickler. In my mind's eye are the glorious views, winding forest paths and quaint mill and church. Three days on and my legs are still reminding me about the beating they took in this race! The hills - you need rock climbing gear! But great fun and very satisfying. Date of review: October 30, 2013
