In short: Correctly advertised as more of a fun run than a race - but very enjoyable :-) In full: Firstly I want to say that I found the overall experience very good and enjoyable. It was billed as a fun run and being held in a busy public park I knew to expect a non-race atmosphere! I thought the organisers did a pretty good job and the marshals were ample, friendly & entertaining (thanks especially to Mr Tooty-Horn man on the 5th corner ;-)
Yes, as many have written, the course was significantly over distance (my Garmin 305 recorded 16.12 Km). I'm guessing they were sloppy with the measuring or restricted by the paths. Probably should have been billed as a 10-miler!
And I am quite disturbed that the event web-page seems to have disappeared with no results page visible. Is it unreasonable to expect this with 24 hours?
If it had been an amateur race, I'd have rather the fee was under £10. But as a charity organised event I didn't mind spending £15 and appreciated the chance to run in a central London park!
By no means a perfect event, but plenty of positives and I had a good time! Date of review: November 15, 2010
In short: longer than expected (15.90k on my garmin) but good fun and fast time In full: Despite the drizzle and then rain this was a fun event. Nice course and friendly atmosphere amongst the runners. The course was longer than advertised - nearly 16k but still managed to keep the pace going to the end. Would do it again. In short: An average race but longer than advertised. In full: I had no problems with the organisation up to and on the day of the event (however the course map that was sent through the post was a little confusing).
On the day, I thought that the event was organised fairly well and the marshalls were very friendly.
The course was a little closer to undulating than flat and the distance advertised was definitely incorrect (My GPS clocked 15.82K, others found it to be over 16K).
After the event, all trace of the run had disappeared from the Stroke Association website and I have yet to find or be told when and where the race results will be posted.
Myself and a friend ran a 'guess the time' competition to encourage donations to the Stroke Association. Unfortunately, the incorrectly measured course and the lack of results has taken some of the 'fun' out of our fundraising efforts.
Overall an average race - it's just a shame about the distance, wet weather and post-race organisation! Date of review: November 15, 2010
In short: Since when is a 16k+ run a 15k run? In full: The course was clearly longer than advertised, which ruined any chance of setting a personal best time. Pointless. Date of review: November 15, 2010
In short: hard work, but fun! In full: An enjoyable race in horrible weather. Organised well enough, friendly marshalls (especially at marker 1, 6 and 11k)....although the last k was a bit long...nice to have it confirmed on here that it was longet that advertised. All in all, a good race...will do it again next year. Date of review: November 15, 2010
In short: It felt like an 'All must have prizes' kind of organised race. In full: Difficult to get a PB when the route is substantially longer than advertised. Very sloppy and irresponsible organising on that front. Date of review: November 14, 2010
In short: A good 16km race In full: I like running in Regents Park and I liked this 15km (actual distance 16km) race. I guess I should have realised that the distance wouldn't be accurate when it was labelled as a "fun run". I'll be interested to see if next weeks run in Richmond Park is 14km to even it out..... In short: 15 K in the rain in November 2010, great day out In full: This was a well organised event. Never run an official 15k race so tryed to pace myself as good as I could. Last 5K stepped up and felt the pain. Very friendly people and all runners were welcomed. Waiting to try and find out the official time now. Date of review: November 14, 2010
In short: Friendly and great for beginners In full: What a day for the weather. Really good organisation on the lead up to the event. Friendly marshalls throughout the course. Was a bit unsure about the distance markers, but would definitely do again next year. Date of review: November 14, 2010
