In short: Great day out! In full: Enjoyed it all the way round, my first half marathon and has left me hungry for more! Very happy with 1hr47! Wife and kids also has a great day with the fun run, very happy with their medals, then being able to cheer me home at the finish of the main event. Date of review: November 30, 2013
In short: Lovely, lovely race! (but where was the lucozade?) In full: Done this the last two years, and PB each time - so although the Orme is tough, there's plenty of opportunity to make the time up on the run in. The Sea Cadets at the top of the Orme were great. Someone mentioned Lucozade at the end. I didn't see that (and I could have murdered a Lucozade!). The hoodies seemed a size too small (at least mine did). Quite like the medal - it's a little different. Overall a lovely run, and pretty good value I think (some others you pay a tenner more and no t-shirt!). Date of review: November 26, 2013
In short: Challenging but fun! In full: A great half marathon course, fantastic scenery and enough of a challenge without being too silly. It did get a little congested, but there's not much that can be done about that short of changing the course, which would just spoil this lovely race.
Regarding previous comments by others:
Medal - I quite like it, it's nicer than many I've received. Water - those small pots are a little lacking I suppose, but it seemed to be enough for me. Commentary in Welsh - well, if you study a map, Conwy is in Wales, so what did you expect? French? And besides, I'd imagine a large proportion of both Spectators and Runners would have understood and appreciated it judging by how much I heard being spoken throughout the day. Steven Edwards is an excellent commentator who knows his running, makes a change from the crap local radio guys you normally get lol! Date of review: November 25, 2013
In short: First time Half marathon - but i spotted a few issues In full: Would recomend this to anyone looking to step up from 10k like i did. Positives: -Fantastic vistas to take your mind off the aches and pains -Fantastic encouragement from the youngsters giving out water - Great local turn out - 50% of course with people clapping/encouraging - Fantastic end point -Well organised parking directions
Negatives - Course too tight for majority of the run. Not enough room to dodge slower runners - Cups for drinking amount to about 1/4 of a tea cup to gulp down. I realise it shaves down on wastage, but does nothing for dehydration... which i was on the final straight- even after 3 water stops in 5*c weather.
Not sure why people are complaining about goodie bags, the majority of costs goes towards road closures (which there are a few) and security (which there is plenty). I enjoyed the lucazade and the water, the medal was good - the t-shirt could have been a technical one, which i could run in.
Would have been useful to have bananas to go with the water at the end, as i usually see in other races - a cheap and useful addition for next year? Date of review: November 25, 2013
In short: A toughie! In full: Following on from previous comments - -The water cups were poor -the course was challenging which I enjoyed -marshalls were generally surly -the atmosphere and location were brilliant -I was not prepared for the sand and gravelly track , but this was no detriment. -the last part of the hill at 7 miles was a bit of a killer(most folk who were around me sensibly walked it ) -the medal was different which I did not object -who wants goody bag anyway ??? most of those handed out at events are a waste of time. -overall a good event which I am glad I entered and completed.
In short: Very challenging race, especially climbing the great orme. In full: Only gripes are no goody bag considering the price of entry, the water stations weren't good, the little foil pots just don't work. Overall though very scenic and very challenging Date of review: November 25, 2013
In short: A great race that gets better every year. In full: This is a fantastic event to take part in, Conwy and Llandudno are beautiful places and the route really shows them off well. I've done this race nearly every year since 2009 and it has got bigger and better each time.
Other people have mentioned the water...it is not great tbh, shallow pots with a foil lid, just doesn't work, never has never will, at the first water station the guys were trying to puncture the lids for the runners but later on, trying to peel back a foil on a shallow pot, on the run, not ideal.
The other point is the difference between committed volunteer marshalls and paid security staff...groups of two or three guys huddling together ignoring the runners isn't good. In a race I want clear directions from the marshalls, it's what I do for nothing when I am marshalling, if you're getting paid, you could make an effort. Date of review: November 24, 2013
In short: Brilliant race, beautiful scenery. In full: This is the second time I have done this race (having previously done it in 2011), the course is challenging, with a fair amount of climbing alongside the Great Orme. The scenery on the climb is stunning though, and the castle finish is pretty good too. Definitely recommended. Date of review: November 24, 2013
