In short: Great Value Local Race In full: Great value and very well organised race. Recently moved to Winslow so it is now my local race. Plenty of volunteers and marshals all the way around and the cubs/scouts on the water stations were enthusiastic despite the weather. Run on open roads but mostly the traffic is courteous. Large mix of abilities, from super serious to first timers.
I was very impressed with the way the whole event went, short queues for number pick up and good use of the school facilities. Only gripe is a lack of a medal, get given a t shirt instead which I always throw to the back of the drawer, it is just nicer to have little medal.
I would definitely run again and not just because it is on my doorstep.
Oh and the hill at the end really is not that bad, although I do use it during my training runs so may be biased.
In short: friendly marshals and runners, varied course, superbly organised, will keep coming back! In full: This is exactly the type of local race that people should be supporting, and each year it seems to run like clockwork. 10 reasons why:
- the entry fee is a bargain - the marshals at the school and on the course are incredibly friendly and encouraging (and all volunteers) - the cub scouts on the 2 water stations shout encouragement and 'high 5' every runner as they pass - the runners are friendly - the atmosphere is relaxed - the route is picturesque and varied - certainly accessible for people new to running/doing their first 10k, and a great race for experienced runners who want to challenge themselves on an undulating course. - the finishing shirt is good quality and a different colour each year - the proceeds go to the local Lions Club - the cakes/bacon butties/hot drinks in the sports hall after the race are worthy of the entry fee alone. - good pubs and a "runner/cyclist friendly" cafe in the Market Square for a leisurely post-race lunch, if the cakes don't fill you up first!
Highly recommended… Date of review: February 28, 2014
In short: LOOK OUT, HILL!! :) In full: Second time of doing this race and once again very enjoyable, even with the steep hill at the end! The marshalls and organisation are excellent, even in the windy wet weather we had this year they still kept smiling! My one and only (minor) gripe is that it isn't chip timed, but that's only a very small point in what is a fantastic locally run race. I'll definately be back again! Date of review: February 24, 2014
In short: coming next year ;) thumbs up In full: 1st time i have ran this despite being so local, loved it, helpers lovely, 2 water stations, staffed by cheerful children all cheering, great support all the way round from spectators, good course, long loop with good long stretches of road to run on without too many turns hill towards the end snuck up on me !! got a new 10k PB just sub 53 mins despite hill and strong winds!! the cakes and catering/baggage etc at the school were brill , parked in town and walked up no problems, even had marshals in car park to avoid getting lost nice tee shirt too, must order more small size though .... if i had to pick a fault great job , thanks so much will be back next year to beat that time... shame you can't do a summer version too ?? In short: 4th time for me so must be good! In full: Really friendly and well organised, with great snacks at the end! Good to have the school facilities to use as makes it really warm pre/post run. Loads of marshalls, water stations with fabulous noisy Cubs shouting support and all the K markers are big and clear (though 1k seems a bit too soon?). My only gripe is that the course is quite boring but I think that's just the flat and slightly scrubby north Bucks countryside! It's also a bargain :-) Date of review: February 23, 2014
In short: A great local race that the weather could not ruin. In full: I had great fun at this exceptionally well organised 10k race. The route which was on good roads was well marked, marshalled and had lovely views.
Hot sandwiches and cake at the end just added to this great event. Date of review: February 23, 2014
In short: very nice local race for all comers In full: 2nd year of running and again well worth the trip from Essex - well organised and inclusive. Managed to find a pb for Mrs Foon which earned lots of points for me! Thanks again Winslow. Date of review: March 12, 2013
In short: Well organised event In full: This race is always well organised, with plenty of marshals out on the course. The quiet rural course is hilly in places, but this provides a good test of early season fitness. Post race baggage collection is quick and easy and the chance to buy a warm drink and a piece of cake is particularly welcome. I look forward to next year's race, but hope the weather isn't sold cold. Date of review: February 26, 2013
In short: excellent marshals on a very cold day In full: this is a well organised event that gets better each passing year. the support from the Lions marshals is incredible even though they were stood about in extreme temperatures. The refreshments in the school before and after the race were very welcome with cakes that were as good as any WI stall!! The scouts provided two water stations and were also very encorouraging to all the runners. well done Winslow Lions on this event. We will definitely be back next year.
