In short: A good 8 miler for those who are comfortable with the distance and want a more challenging terrain. In full: Plenty of mud and even a freshly ploughed field thrown in for good measure! A fitting tribute to the Somme in this centenary year.. However, some easy going stretches too, esp the last mile which is solid track, and a nice downhill slope, making the previous 7 mile of slipping and sliding a distant memory.. Good marshalling; more than last year, which was appreciated. I missed not having the squash at the water station, which they had last year, but other than that, one happy, muddy runner :) Thanks to MRC for a great race! Date of review: November 16, 2014
In short: Thanks to all runners! In full: From all of us at Marlborough Running Club, a big thank you to everyone who took part in today's Avebury 8. It was great to see many smiling faces and to hear that you enjoyed it.
We hope to be back next year and look forward to seeing you again.
In short: To all runners on the Avebury 8 In full: Marlborough Running Club recognises that there were a few runners who took a wrong turn on the course which resulted in them doing an additional 1.5 miles. We apologise for this and appreciate that this may have spoilt the enjoyment of the event for them. We will assess carefully the marshaling and signage points for future events to improve on what is a very enjoyable event for the majority.

In short: Scenic run with enough to challenge In full: Nowhere I'd have rather have been on a Sunday morning! For me, this was a well organised, challenging race and there was a commemorative mug for all finishers. I understand that a small number of runners took a wrong turn, which was extremely unfortunate but shouldn't put you off entering next year. This is a really fun race! In short: Let down by lack of marshalls and/or signage at key turning points. In full: After today, it should be called the Avebury 9.5 miles due to poor signage. 8 of the top 10 runners ended up running 1.5 miles further then anybody else. Very disappointing. Date of review: November 17, 2013
In short: quite challenging In full: Nicely organised race, lovely marshalls, bit of a clubby feel, but that wasnt intentional its just that a lot of the local clubs ran it! felt like you were all in it together. Nice to get a keepsake mug instead of the usual medal or t-shirt (my husband is jealous!). Pretty hard work, given the mud, lots of slippy rutted tracks, and muddy fields, and hards slogs along country lanes. but think i got away lightly as apparantly it has been a lot worse in previous years! not sure if i would do again, but only because its a 2 hour drive from where i live! In short: Fab In full: A great offroad race, a couple of inclines and plenty of mud what more could you ask for. Well done to all the marshalls and the organisers I really enjoyed it and will be back next year. Date of review: November 18, 2012
In short: Sun ,frost, mud...and a little bit of World Heritage In full: Starting from the World Heritage site of Avebury and its famous ring of stones, this 8 miler winds its way off road across the Wiltshire countryside mostly on rutted field and farm tracks. This year the weather had been quite kind for some days before, and on the day itself we were treated to warm (for November) sunshine with some heavy early morning frost. As a result the mud quota was probably relatively low in comparison to other years, but still sufficient to be a challenge. I'd rate the terrain as long up/down slopes rather than full-on hills, so a good race for those who want to try trail/off road running. Excellent organisation and marshalling, and the mug (rather than T shirt etc) was a very welcome change to usual race offerings. Well done Marlborough Running Club. Date of review: November 18, 2012
