In short: Freezing Morning Running in Open Fields In full: Standing at the start line in freezing temperatures was not a ideal start to the day but once the starting gun went off, this was a nice undulating run through country fields and country lanes.
This feels like the first 10km is mostly uphill and final 10kms is somewhat downhill (except for the 16km mark - which nearly killed me).
The organisation of picking up numbers at a local hotel was great and very relaxing. The lift to the start line was a nice touch (thanks to the driver).
Overall a nice run and well organised. The free massages was a nice touch.
Medal was pretty average but Tshirt was nice Date of review: February 29, 2016
In short: Tough course which kept undulating until the very end. In full: Nice small race on a pretty tough course. More ascent than Watford and harder on the legs as the hills keep on coming (I got a slightly better time oddly). Pretty well organised, I was a bit concerned about the complicated sounding race number collection as I don't live locally but was fine. Good marshals who kept cheering through the cold and fog. In short: It's tough and very hilly In full: Reflection on a race is very important - review it the day after for perspective! Over the finish line, thoughts of "never again" and "thank God that's over" crashed into each other. It's a low key race that runs very smoothly and praise to the organisers for that, the mile markings (give or take 10 seconds) and marshalls too were great and a doughnut with a cup of tea :-) Mmmmmm! The scenery was foggy so no views to admire. There's no relentless straight flat roads here; it twists a bit and climbs and falls to test you beyond what you have probably trained for. It's really good to have this race in the calendar and finding a sub-90 will be a job well done. Baggage control was excellent and thank you for the bus back to town - we were going to walk, but felt cold rather than tired. Try this race and see how good at hills you really are! Oh! and well done the over 50 men - great times in there - to the 49 year olds, your time will come Date of review: February 16, 2015
In short: Interesting, friendly, well organised . And undulating In full: A really really "enjoyable" event . Well organised. Brilliant communication pre event; friendly and welcoming on the day; well marshalled; and a variety of terrain to master. Some of the mile signs seemed a bit out but this is a really really minor point in comparison to everything else. And I loved my donut at the end. Well done all ! Date of review: February 15, 2015
In short: 3rd year at the Beast - it gets better with age. Excellent challenging run. In full: Undulating with long tough uphills and fast downhills. Well supported and signposted along the route. Weather was a real bonus. Organisation was excellent - views from previous years have been taken on board. Love this run. Date of review: February 21, 2014
