In short: Well organised and friendly - stadium finish gives me goose bumps In full: This is the 3rd year I've ran MK marathon and love it. Of course MK mara isn't flat.... neither is London or Brighton what do you expect when crossing rivers and canals?! The first half you find yourself looping back and passing your fellow runners - for me this is fab as you get to encourage everyone and they shout encouragement back. The second half the field tends to spread out but you run through some really pretty villages/ MK suburbs with the finale running in to Stadium MK - Goose bumps!! Date of review: May 19, 2015
In short: Two (plus) hours to get there, yet it was a brilliant day! In full: My second marathon and I loved it. A great experience. The atmosphere at the start line was lovely, busy and buzzing; so different from the quiet, low key marathon that I did last year - Seabank (Boston to Skegness). Milton Keynes is not flat! The inclines were fairly long, not especially steep yet I suffered with my knees by mile 20. The last 10k I got round on mental strength alone I think! A kind lady let me use her loo at mile 11 (thank you, whoever you are). Spectator support was pretty good, mainly in the town, but there were people dotted about along the course, supporting us. There were dancers en route, a singer, and music. Chariots of fire, very uplifting! There were water stations/sports drink stations galore! Took my own hydration belt but I definitely needed the extra fluid. The stadium finish was fab. I felt like a professional athlete with people cheering and clapping me as I crossed the finish line. Medal is smashing! Parking was bl**dy awful, didn't think I'd need VIP parking, oh how I wish I'd paid extra for it. MK marathon is a great race for beginners and for anyone wanting that big city race experience. Organisation was faultless in my opinion and everything was simply perfect - apart from parking, oh and a 'road marshal' giving us the wrong direction to the stadium when we got to the closed roads. A massive thank you to all the marshals, organizers, volunteers and everyone else involved with the marathon. Also a big thank you to the thousands of runners who turned up on the 4th May; I had a great experience and I'm glad I shared it with you. Date of review: May 14, 2015
In short: A fantastic marathon - one of the very best In full: Lovely green route, great organisation, super support and bands on the route. Love the fact that they have a different medal design every year and they're all great designs. Love the stadium finish.
Nothing not to like! I'll be back next year. Date of review: May 14, 2015
In short: Of the 8 marathons I have done, this was the very best. In full: The race was really well organised, all the race crew/support staff were most helpful. The medal was one of the best I've had, the goody bag is great and the stadium is simply amazing! I loved the route variety and the scenery in MK is much better than expected. Of the 8 marathons I have done, this was the very best.
In short: Fabulously organised race and a very enjoyable day out. In full: Really well organised, plenty of toilet access, fantastic marshals, great stadium finish, close to the car (so nice to not have to walk miles to your car after such a long run!). Having a runners-only space at the end was such a good idea!!! It really helped to not be completely swamped by people at the end of the race. The scenery was actually much nicer than I thought it would be and it wasn't quite as flat as I thought it would be. Thank you so much to the organisers and everyone there who supported all the runners!! Date of review: May 9, 2015
In short: Tougher than expected. In full: This was my 4th Marathon and probably the course I have found most challenging so far. I barely remember any parts that were flat, and there was a tough hill around 20 miles. Despite this I did get a PB, but I would say this came out of my own running progression rather than the course.
That said, this was well organised, the stadium is obviously perfect for dealing with high volumes of people. There were plenty of toilets (just walk around the stadium a bit away from the exit and you could get straight in one), well organised bag drop and easy to meet friends and family at the end. My only slight criticism would be the starting zones, I didn't really see anything any different, but this is a minor and I didn't feel too bunched up as soon as we got going.
A very friendly race, with good support, a few lonely bits but marshals were all very encouraging.
I probably wouldn't do this again, but more because there are many other Marathons I would like to try in the future. Date of review: May 9, 2015
In short: 2nd time I've run, even better this year! In full: I love this race! I ran it last year too - both times post-big city marathon (last year London, this year Manchester) & both times, despite tired legs from only just having run one, I have enjoyed this one more!! The course is fab - quite tough from mile 20 onwards, but varied & pretty (certainly compared to the dreariness of Manchester anyway - the world's most boring course!) & great support (helps that I am local though so had friends as marshals!) The stadium start & finish is brill, so well organised, loads of room, loads of loos, couldn't fault it. The medal is great but a tshirt too would be good for the price as there wasn't really anything else in the goody bag (Manchester trumped that as got a tshirt & more snacks too!) but on the whole I think it's brilliant. Well worth doing, and a great Spring marathon. Hurray for MK! I'm proud to call it my local marathon! Date of review: May 8, 2015
In short: This race just gets better every year! In full: This is one of my all time top marathon events. The organisation is first class! The stadium venue is spacious and good for supporters. No queuing for toilets, the baggage area is massive and very well organised. Goody bag is very good.
Water tops are well stocked, the marshals are very friends and the route is varied and even though has some inclines does have PB potential.
A great day out and well worth entering. Date of review: May 8, 2015
