In full: i couldn't fault any part of the 5 days whatsoever i have done many many races over the past 20 years and this race tops them all even though i picked up an injury. i will be back next year if they will have me Date of review: December 4, 2013
In short: A feeling of accomplishment is a definite In full: Well organised 5 day event great marshalls good comeraderie amongst runners it is a hell of a hill with certain parts of the lap that could make a saint swear each tough bit short and sweet followed by an easier bit to make it doable 40 times in 5 days. Great daily medals and my first ever trophy! My second event with hill runner who also do bolton hill marathon another brill event. Swore id never do it again but a week later hmmmmm Date of review: December 1, 2013
In short: Hard as Hell But a Fantastic Race! a must for all marathoners In full: Very tough challenge but Phil and his team made this into a special event and one i will never forget, this event holds good memories. The organisation was fantastic for my £135 entry fee got free gels and energy stuff for the full 5 days, hot and cold food before and after the race, ice bath, physio in race hq, heated marquee, the best medal of the year wow!! and totally fantastic marshals who supported us 17 runners around the brutal course. Made some friends forever and got to meet the legend marathon runner Rik Vercoe. This is the second time i have ran hillrunner marathons and they never disappoint, did the Bolton Marathon early in the year and was just as good value for money, think a lot of RD's could learn from Phil and Kris. They even had a running shop in race HQ for any last minute items we forgot. Just trying to save up for next years 5 in 5 and looking forward i think?? to doing it all again! Date of review: November 30, 2013
In short: A boy becomes a man. In full: Weather was incredibly generous for time of year; advise anyone to take this challenge as you would be supporting an admirable course and competing on Rivington Pike where fell races have been recorded since 1897 so history will be in your bones. It's an indelibly unique challenge that offers new prospective everyday. I'll never moan about a road marathon again! Date of review: November 30, 2013
In short: Fantastic race In full: Whilst "only" taking part in one of the 5 marathons, I have to say that it was an excellent race. The organisation, the wonderful friendly marshalls, the finishers medal, the food before and after the race make this a race not to be missed. Puts most other races to shame. In short: Who'd have thought laps could be so much fun?! In full: This was a marathon done off the back of not enough training due to a persistent niggle. But I thought the laps (all 8 of them) would make dropping out easy if nec; thankfully it wasn't nec. I was made to feel welcome by the hardcore 5 day runners (only did the one day) and the organisors, who put a huge amount of time and effort in.
The massage service before and after the race was of a very high standard (not always the case at races) and even though the laps thing was good for dropping out, I had been dreading them overall - but I actually really enjoyed the event! A happy surprise for me.
Two sets of steps though, and generally hard/ uneven stuff underfoot, doesn't mnake for an "easy" marathon. Date of review: November 29, 2013
In short: Only for the brave/stupid (I mean that in a good way!) In full: These were my first back-to-back marathons (I did day 4 and 5) and I don't think I could've chosen any harder. This race is hard whatever pace you run at - it is to be savoured as a challenge, not to be enjoyed as a cruise! I really enjoyed the atmpsphere and spiriti and have every intention of running in this again. Date of review: November 28, 2013
In short: Best new multi-day race to be added to the marathon calendar in years! In full: This is a fantastic event, with Race Directors Phil & Kris having given careful attention to every possible detail. If you're going to organise a marathon event, then this is how you do it. A 24 hour race base, with hot food and drink throughout the event; bespoke heavey duty medals (excellent for the bling collectors amongst us); trophys and prize money; daily massage available and ice bath; and some of the nicest marshals you're ever likely to meet and, of course, the mildly challenging route 40 times over the Pike. Great work guys - best new race on the marathon calendar!! If only it was just a little bit tougher!! Rik Date of review: November 28, 2013
