In short: Really enjoyable! In full: Really enjoyed this race. Atmosphere was great and the field size was ideal for the terrain and size of the park. Only gripe was the steps that messed with the rhythm. Would definitely do it again. Date of review: May 8, 2013

In short: Nice venue, well-organised (so it should be for that level of entry fee) - but they don't tell you about the "off-road" bits In full: Was looking for a local 10K race over the Bank Holiday weekend and this was the only game in town. Thought the entry fee was high but was prepared to pay it....but having to pay a £1.50 supplement for entering online left a sour taste, and being asked to pay extra again for using my debit card was definitely taking the p***. The course being round Sefton Park, it was reasonable to expect undulations and tight corners and indeed there were several. There was also a nasty finish - a long drag up a slight incline over most of the last km. Tough, but again not unreasonable to include in a race. What I did find unreasonable for an event advertised on this site as a "road" 10K was to have to run over a number of stretches which weren't either tarmac or pavement. These ran over uneven grass, or sometimes very rough trackway, and in more than one part of the course, were entered or exited by one of the sharp bends. Fortunately, it was a sunny dry day - on a wet day, these would have been a hazard to negotiate in road shoes. The steps (encountered just before 4K and 9K) were apparently a late amendment to the course (on "safety" grounds that I didn't really understand), and a real momentum killer. Definitely NOT appreciated. Date of review: May 6, 2013
In full: The inclusion of steps twice, some tight turns, some bit over rough terrain and narrow bits didn't help PB potential. The old womens 10k course didn't have all this. Nice atmosphere and very well organised. Date of review: May 6, 2013
In short: A good welcoming 10k race. In full: My only complaint would be the course was changed at short notice (for safety I might add) to include going up a flight of steps twice. Not ideal but did slow down an otherwise fast course.
I'll be back next year. Date of review: May 5, 2013
