In short: Unique race, and a good run. In full: Ok, the scenery in the tunnel isn't the nicest. But, because you get to run through the tunnel it does make it a unique run. Running along the promenade is also nice, makes for brilliant views of Liverpool. It's a good run, which can be challenging in the heat and with the constant incline of the tunnel. In short: Brilliant race, challenging tunnel exit In full: Plenty of space at the start, even on the road down to the tunnel. Better finish area worked well and no congestion which was a problem last year. 7th time I've done this race and will be back again. Great medal and t-shirt. Date of review: June 9, 2014
In short: Fun race but can be quick. In full: Not entirely sure about the start as it was a little cramped in a somewhat dystopian area of Liverpool. It did cause a couple of issues at the start, but they were ironed out quickly once things were underway.
Personally, I found the downhill through the tunnel a benefit as it allows you to get warmed up nicely for the short uphill onto the prom, where it gets a little more scenic.
There were a couple of markers missing - nothing unusual for a race - and the end stretch was preferable to the finish being visible for miles.
The end was well organised, with volunteers being helpful.
Well done to Alan and his elves! Date of review: June 9, 2014
In short: Is Liverpool City Council Embarrassed By This Race? In full: Why has the start line been shoved down a grotty side road right next to the tunnel? This is a great running event that Liverpool seems to shun and Wirral embraces more every year Date of review: June 8, 2014
In short: Race to the ice cream In full: A good morning's effort. A bit hot through the tunnel but great to get onto the Prom and wind up the pace for the finish line. Bit congested at the finish but the volunteers and cadets were working hard dishing out water, 'nanas, medals etc.
Can highly recommend the ice cream at Cafe Creme as a post race treat. If a 10k means two scoops, does finishing the Wirral Half in October (which also finishes in New Brighton) mean three scoops?!
The climb out of the tunnel does start to hurt by the end of it. That said, my other half has PB'd the race for the last two years so there is potential. Date of review: June 27, 2013
In short: good race , well organised, unique opportunity to run mersey tunnel and 1 third of race under water, teeshirt and medal great . In full: I ran the race for the first time this year, enjoyed running the tunnel part to compare with the marathon route last year. atmosphere brilliant and support good along the route. Very warm weather but not at the detriment of the race. The start could be improved by starting pens as slower runners did cause problems for the first few k but still managed to run personal best by over 3 minutes. I had no problems at the finish, tee shirt great and medal. Will be there next year. Date of review: June 20, 2013
In short: This was my first ever race and I will definately be doing it again In full: Cracking atmosphere and a good finish running down New Brighton Prom. The Hill in the tunnel is steeper than i ever imagined! Date of review: June 11, 2013
