In short: Could be better In full: The course it self is okay. There aren't any hills to worry about. There is a short sharp hill around 10 miles which leads to a rough track which I could have done with out. The main problem is the water stations, there a few of them I grant you, but they are not the best to say the least. I'm use to getting a water bottle but in this race you get a small paper cup of water which on a hot day is not enough. Plus you have to stop to drink it. Change the cups to bottles of water and I'd do it again. Date of review: June 24, 2014
In short: Some hills but not too challenging. In full: Lovely part of the world. Strong winds, and a potholed field from mile 11 to 12 made the second half tough, though the first half was mainly downhill wind behind, and my splits reflect it! Will be special for me as I broke 1.30 for the first time, though there are easier courses.
Loads of marshals, and the few spectators there were (largely rural course), were very pleasant. Had to share the roads with some cars on many sections, though again the marshals kept this safe. If you can possibly do the route and lose that potholed track, Malvern, it would be an excellent race. Date of review: June 28, 2013
In short: My first ever half - got me hooked! In full: Run through beautiful scenery, on a pretty flat route. The 2nd half, heading back towards the Malvern hills is particularly striking. Good value and well organised – loads of marshals and efficient drinks stations. The start was well marked out with expected finish time zones, and a long wide open first section minimises congestion. Lots of free parking is also nice. Only caveats would be that this is not a run for you if you don’t like running with the traffic at your back, as the roads aren’t closed. Plus save something for mile 11 to 12 which is pretty exposed, and it was pretty windy this year. But this will be a special run for me as it was my first ever half! Date of review: June 24, 2013
In short: Half marathon is harder than what you'd have thought! In full: Very good organization so thanks to the organizers!! Drink stations a plenty and encouragement from marshals was good! However large sections of the race you are alone so not much atmosphere. But the scenery is great, rural with a great views of the Malvern hills make for a pleasant race.
I would not turn up expecting a PB, the course is relatively flat but quite misleading. First half is pretty much a gentle decline but second half is a constant gentle incline which inevitably gets more difficult as it goes on due to fatigue especially with a horrible wind from miles 11 - 12.
