In short: Quick course good crowd support In full: Was surprised by level of crowd support, the locals really came out in support. I agree about the race course section being rough but can't help thinking that if the sun was shining and birds were singing rather than rain and a howling wind then it would have been more acceptable to all! : )Thought the race entry was very steep though and wasn't a fan of the water bags but like the race course section horses for courses I guess. Got a huge PB so not too many complaints Date of review: October 8, 2013
In short: good PB potential In full: My first half marathon so nothing to compare it to really. Thought was well organised, friendly and lots of local support. As a Cheltenham local i was surprised at the choice of route, there are nicer parts of Cheltenham to run through. The race would have been better run the other way round, running the racecourse (so boring) in the last couple of miles (wind against you, exposed, rain) with no one to cheer you from the sidelines except the volunteers was tough and would have been better done at the start. Lovely chunky medal and reasonable goodie bag. Everyone I know who did it was pleased with their time or had a PB. Would do it again if they missed out or swapped the racecourse loop. In short: Some small tweaks would make it great In full: The race was very good and you can run a PB here with no problem as I proved. The only down side was the route around the race course which was not much fun at all which surprised me. If the route was reversed or changed slightly I would make it even better. Overall very enjoyable and pleased I entered this race rather than Bristol which I did last year. Will prob come back next year unless Great North Run calls me. Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: Great event - I'll definitely be back next year In full: Very well organised, great course and definite PB potential. Water pouches were a great idea, support was tremendous and nice downhill last half mile meant for great sprint finish. See you next year Cheltenham HM Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: Great race but racecourse is tough! In full: My first half so nothing to compare it too. Really well organised, great crowds, lovely route around city centre but the racecourse at the end was a killer. Would be better if the route could be done in reverse next year. Really lovely medal so worth the final slog! Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: Very enjoyable first half marathon around a beautiful town with great support In full: Was very nervous leading up to this run but all nervousness was dispelled upon reaching to race village. The event was very well organised and the support round the whole course was fantastic, though the guys dressed as superheroes were the main focus-coming round a corner to hear cheers of "Go Spider-Man & Robin" (Batman had fallen back a little!) is quite surreal but kept a smile on my face. Cheltenham is a beautiful town and the run showed it off perfectly. Great to get to run around the racecourse at the end though this was by far the toughest part of an almost completely flat course.
Only real con was coming from our of town once road closures had begun there were no signs to the car parks. Found them ok but with a little trouble so signs might have helped.
However, overall it was a great experience and a wonderful preparation for some of the hillier halls I have planned. The only reason I can see not to do this event again next year is the proliferation of other local events on the same day (Bristol & Chippenham are closer for me, and I do fancy the Great North Run at some point). In all likelihood though I will be here again next year to collect another lovely medal and smash my PB. Date of review: September 16, 2013
