In short: Great race - excellent marshalls, good pb potential, good support In full: Running through the suburbs of Peterborough is never going to compete with the worlds best for scenery but for a well organised, well marshalled race with great pb potential this race is brilliant. The locals sit outside their houses and cheer you on, and there are enough runners to always have people around, without so many that it is impossible to run. Only minor criticisms - the start was a bit disorganised this year, toilet queues were horrendous, they didnt give us free parking (as in previous years), the car parks filled up very quickly, so despite having paid in advance I couldnt get in and the road surface at mile 7ish was horrible. In short: Flat and fast race, well organised In full: Good technical t-shirt and medal for finishing. Quite enjoyed he course even though it was all through town. Didn't have a problem with toilets at start; despite what others have said, there were male urinals at start area with very little queues. Funnel system at start seemed to work well and wide roads meant no problems passing . Will probably be back next year. Date of review: October 14, 2014
In short: Organisation needs to be improved. In full: Good to have technical T-shirt rather than cotton,& choices of S,M,L, but I am very extremely disappointed that my 'small' technical T-shirt is huge!! Practically knee length & massively wide. It measures to a 40 inch chest. How is that 'small' !! Totally inadequate amount of toilets. People still queuing after start. Start pens disorganised, a free for all. Didn't even hear gun for start. Date of review: October 14, 2014
In short: Fast and flat with great local support In full: A great pb course - most of it flat or downhill with only a few gentle stretches of up. One section was over uneven road surface which was bad to run on. Very nice to have so much local support cheering us on. Although it's all on road it's not the dullest half I've done, and was overall quite pretty with the autumnal trees. Water stations plentiful and perfect small bottles with sports caps. Well marshalled, and an excellent goodie bag. Gripes: parking was disorganised, and some people ended up paying twice as the pre-booked car parks were full; I couldn't see many loos at the start although apparently there were more. Maybe better signage next year. I was upset that the results were published in alphabetical rather than position order and are searchable by name only as I like to see how I've done overall and in my age and gender categories. I will probably run the race again though. Date of review: October 14, 2014
In short: Lovely downhill course - with great support In full: This was a great race to do. The course is lovely: felt like most of the route was slightly downhill (always a bonus); fab support all the way round; plentiful water stations; and loads of runners so had lots of company all the way round though I was towards the back.
Did tire in the last 3 miles - but considering I had done a marathon two weeks earlier - probably not that surprising.
Will definitely be back - though next time I probably won't have done a marathon 2 weeks beforehand, so I can make more of the course.
In short: Better than anticpated event In full: Reasonably good organisation, nothing special but they managed to cope with the large number of runners, there was no need to rush to do all the usaul post run things, loo, baggage etc before the start. Contrary to comment below there were plenty of toilets in various sections of the Embankment start area including two male specific urinals. The first few miles were on wide roads which gave room to pass slower runners but although the event had a no headphone policy, it would have been good if this had been enforced especially for those runners who decided to veer off to the right and cutting up those behind at the water stations despite shouts that there was water on both sides of the road. There was plenty of encouragement and support along the route building up to a wonderful atmosphere along the final kilometre to the finish. It would have been great if more had been made of the finish area - the local running retailer had aready packed up before half of the runners had finished, making this into more of an expo village would have given a better post run experience. Definitely an event to enter again in the future.
In short: Great value, fast, flat race with technical t shirt. Pretty well organised. In full: This year the starting funnel was much improved with a new system that seemed to work from where I was. The bag check in was excellent and slick. Given how well everything else was organised I am surprised at how poor the toilet facilities were. There were massive queues everywhere with just twenty minutes until the race putting extra pressure on runners. Male urinals would be a massive help reducing queues for everyone. It is small details like this that really make a difference. Don't like to grumble about the event as it is my third year in a row of running in it and it won't put me off making it four next year. In short: Flat, fast and well organised. In full: Really excellent half marathon! Course was flat all the way round (only tiny inclines and a few sharpish turns). Organisation was excellent, decent technical t-shire and medal. Crowds were also good all the way round! I got a huge PB, absolutely recommend to any runner. Date of review: October 13, 2014
