In short: A well organised enjoyable event! In full: Last year was the first time I did this run and was so happy, I returned again this year! The marshalls are friendly, the organisation is great and all in all it is a very enjoyable run. The only thing I have that is negative to say, is the initial registration is a bit bedlham. Woul you into the school hall to register or get your number but there are people standing along the corridor and many in the hall getting changed. This makes is too manic at the start of the day. Other than that, Very happy and would be returning next year. Thank you to everyone that helped! Date of review: February 14, 2016
In short: A decent, fast half In full: A fast very-slightly undulating but pretty much flat course along quiet country lanes, similar to Paddock Wood but smaller and more intimate. Starts and ends on the village green which was a little bit wet underfoot but nothing to worry about. A fast course as long as the wind isn't up on the day.
The immediate results at the finish was a nice touch, the only minor gripes are the usual ones; baggage & toilets! The obvious thing to do with the baggage is give runners a label they can write their race number on then attach to their bag, as the slowness came from the baggage people doing the labelling which meant long queues.
Would definitely run this race again. Date of review: October 13, 2015
In short: Well organised half marathon In full: Enjoyable half marathon. Nicely undulating course through countryside lanes. Lots of marshals and spectators out on the course. Heavy rain before the race meant a pretty mashed up village green, not helping the start but the race cannot start on the road. Results appeared promptly near the finish line. Not impressed with the number of runners with earphones on at the start line and could've been spotted. If you say you'll disqualify them, please do so... Date of review: February 17, 2015
In short: Great race with a flat route through the kent countryside In full: Big improvement on the previous years race. The race HQ was a big improvement, but there seems to be a need for more toilets which led to the race starting 10 minutes late. The course was good and well marshalled. I would like to say thank you to all the marshals and those who helped out at the water station who all did a great job. Last year I thought the mile markers were out, so this year I run with my Garmin and the course was marked out accurately, I could not fault it. The course is not pancake flat but as I had run it the previous year I already knew this. I really enjoyed the race and I am already looking forward to running it again next year. In full: Really friendly race, not totally flat but still a fast course. Accurate distance and good value. Would be good if it could be made affiliated so times could go onto power of 10. Would definitely do it again and recommend it to friends Date of review: February 15, 2015
In short: Friendly small scale half marathon In full: Very friendly small scale half marathon, completely different atmosphere to the 'big' local halves coming up on the next few weeks. Some people were moaning about the queuing for everything at the start- it didn't really matter, the race was just delayed for a few minutes so that no one was left behind. Flat Kentish countryside, more undulating than Paddock Wood, but nothing you could really call a hill. Friendly supportive marshals. Well done Date of review: February 15, 2015
In short: OK, room for improvement In full: On the positive side: a pleasant course, well-marshalled (thanks guys!), reasonably flat (though quite not the pancake I expected!), and pretty much traffic free. So far, so good.
I have two gripes, which shouldn't be too difficult to resolve...
1) pre-race organisation was a bit chaotic. The queue for numbers should have been far better managed. Putting sponsors/local sports businesses into the sports hall while people are queueing just cramped the available space and didn't help anyone. The fact that the start of the race had to be delayed because people were still queuing for numbers/toilets is an unfortunate symptom of underestimating how many people will converge at once on a small space.
2) Mile markers were inaccurate! The total distance was spot-on - but each mile marker from 1 - 12 was slightly ahead of my watch; as I passed 12 my watch read 11.60 miles. However, from 12 - 13.1 it made up the distance and measured out at 1.5 miles. That was a bit frustrating.
All in all - not bad, and full of good intent - but room for improvement. Will give it another go. Date of review: February 15, 2015
