In short: Really well organised 10k, In full: A really nice race, lovely course with a few inclines to add to the experience. Faultless organisation and the race specific medal is a nice touch. How races should be! Date of review: September 21, 2014
In short: great as ever In full: third time running this and its still as good as ever. organisation is seamless, plenty of toilets at the start(other race organisers take note!!, and the atmosphere is friendly and supportive all the way round. closed roads this year but in all honesty the route is pretty quiet on a sunday morning anyway, but I guess it must have helped to a degree.perfect conditions on the day,and I even managed a sprint finish! thanks again swallowfield scouts for organising a great race! In short: I really enjoyed this one In full: Personally I don't listen to music on the go so the headphone ban was irrelevant to me, but honestly, I run a lot of village fun runs and the much-hyped "safety" aspect seems over the top in the circumstances.
My only real annoyance was the astonishingly slow directions into the parking field; there was a massive queue which was quite unnecessary. Given they managed to organize four races to run simultaneously like clockwork they might have managed to organize a car park!
Still, I thought the atmosphere and facilities were great, the marshals friendly, the route pleasant and relaxing, there was a play park for my littleun and the man with the mic cheered me over the line by name. I love it when that happens. Also I wasn't last. That's good too! Date of review: October 1, 2013
In short: Could be so much better In full: This was a decent enough event, and with a bit more thought could have been so much better. The route is well marked and marshalled. The setting is very nice and having closed road is always a nice bonus. I do think that they should straight line the finish a little bit more instead of having to make two turns off the road. But I'm nit picking now.
The problems I found were with the parking. There is a large open field between the start and finish line, so it's ideally positioned. That said there was no urgency by those in charge to get cars in and parked. The queue was back onto the main road and you could tell people were getting annoyed and frustrated, as they just wanted to get in, parked and start warming up. My second complaint was regarding the "no music" rule. We were all told on the start line that we could not listen to music on the route or face being disqualified. There was no mention of this on their website or in the booklet they sent out once you had signed up. It's a bit late in the day to be telling 400 people this. There were loads of annoyed people running the route with headphones wrapped around their wrists, and there was no need for this either. With closed roads there was zero traffic, and besides you are running on country lanes not main roads.
Fix the parking and let us listen to music and this could be a really great event. Date of review: September 24, 2013
In full: a well organised event combining the duathlon & other races. the organisers managed to run these events side by side without any problems well done. As these events did cross paths at least at one point i can understand the reason for a ban on headphones for the safty of all participants. one runner near me was politly asked by a marshal to run with just one earphone, he refused and showed a boorish arrogance to the request. to that bloke and others please remember these people are volunteers without them there would be no race. In short: Great 10k In full: When I do a 10k I like a medal and a chocolate bar at the end, and Swallowfield delivered on this, as well as giving a water bottle! It's good value for money and chip timing would be nice as the start is quite tight, but it's not a big problem. The course is not as hilly as the elevation I saw beforehand suggested, but the second 5k is pretty flat, and after the uphill you get a great downhill. The marshals were pretty enthusiastic on the whole.
At the time of writing this review the results are not yet up (4pm) - I guess I have been spoilt by the insane efficiency of Teignbridge Trotters in Devon who appear to be able to post their results more or less as soon as a race is over, despite using manual timing! I think race organisers should provide a statement on their websites saying when they expect to have the results available.
On the whole this is a great race. One suggestion: more signage as you enter the village to say where the car park is. Date of review: September 22, 2013
In short: Decent 10k In full: Decent 10k In fairness , not chipped which is a bummer but times are accurate . Bit frustrating at the start being told we would be 'disqualified ' if we wore headphones , seems a bit over the top . I'd definitely run it again thought, first 5k is reasonably hilly but last 5k isn't too bad at all. Potential pb for sure Date of review: September 22, 2013
