Hello everyone, hope all well, progressing nicely with a 6.3 mile run this morning in 1 hour 2 minutes so just over the hour mark for 10k by a minute or so. Only slight niggle was a pain in the hip near the end,so quite pleased.

Long time no see ... I forgot about this thread with all this other "life" stuff happening! I ran my first 10k last summer in 49:31. I then ran another one in November in 48:45 (same course). And after laughing at the suggesting of running further I'm now entered into my first half marathon!! Still saying a big no to a marathon ...

I also entered into the world of Garmin at christmas and I love my little watch. No more running with the clunky phone.

Well Done on the times Emse,i too have entered a half-marathon,albeit it is a long way off,The Great Scottish Run in Glasgow on October 5th,plenty time i hope to increase mileage and distance and have a few 10k races over the summer, looking forward to the challenge.

Esme the world of garmin , I got one for a belated Xmas present a week before the silverstone half marathon and it's a great piece of kit , well worth getting if you don't already have one

Yeah I do love it although I just realised that if you run approximately a race distance & stop your watch it assumes that you have crossed the finish line in a real race and takes that as your time. So I've been frustrated at my inability to clock under 2hrs for my training half but it's because I stop the watch at dead on 2hrs (and a tiny bit further than HM distance!!!) d'oh.

Well done guys.

I've not been getting any notifications from this thread for ages & thought I'd check it out now hubby has done his marathon in the hope that it gives me a lift while my body is healing from run/walking his long runs with him.  They have caused lots of problems with my knees so much so that I've struggled to walk the day after.

15/04/2014 at 07:07

Hm4 , I hope you get better soon , dont get to frustrated

7th skip,

Thanks.  I've not really ran for about 2 weeks & have concentrated on stretching as my hip has also been affected.  I'm going to try a run this afternoon.  I want to get myself sorted for my first race of the year which is going to be the 2.5 mile Hook race.

16/04/2014 at 07:12

hook run 2,5 , nice little run , after missing it for the last 2 years i think I have decided that this year I will be running the 6 mile hook run , and being my local run I have no excuse really

well good luck stretch well , and if you see me say hello

16/04/2014 at 09:00

7th skip,

Will do.  Let me know your bib number.

17/04/2014 at 07:04

i will do , I'm actually looking forward to the hook , been using the six mile route as such as my training run , just to get a feel for it

the back hill after railway bridge is still a long hill no matter how many times I run up the thing , lol

17/04/2014 at 18:27

7th skip,

Is that the one after the industrial estate just before you turn left to go along the short bit before you turn left again to go into the town part?

18/04/2014 at 11:28

that is the one , horrible thing

18/04/2014 at 19:11

7th Skip,

I'd love to find a hill like that in Petersfield however nothing comes close to it.  The worst thing is it's not much of a hill it's just the length of it.

19/04/2014 at 12:10

yes your right it's the length of the hill and it gives a false impression when you look at it

but hey ho I will succeed on the day I know I will lol

good running all

Hope nobody mines me joining this thread.  I'm a pretty new runner.  I've done the 10k distance in training twice with a PB of 1:11:54, though last night I did 6.24miles (so close) in 1:09:02 so I think my 10k has slightly improved.

These were all done at an easy conversational pace.  I have my first officially timed run next Wednesday and I'm hoping to come in at about 65mins...hopefully I'm not kidding myself!

A sub 60min 10k is a big goal of mine, and hopefully with a bit of work over the next few months I'll be able to achieve it!

01/05/2014 at 13:58

Hi Lawlorka

welcome to the site , sounds like you are within site of your goal of a sub 60 for a 10k

with an official run the excitement and the crowds will spur you on so dont be surprised if you actually do better than you expect ,i reckon you can achieve your goal on your run , but this will depend on conditions and your condition on the day

good luck and let us know how you get along

7th skip,

804 black.  It would be great to meet up beforehand & as we missed this a previous year do you think it would be an idea to organise something more concrete?  If you do  message me & we can sort something out.

Hi & welcome, of course you can join this thread.  I've been attempting a sub 60 for years but not got there yet, however hope to either this year or next.  Good luck.
