am in week 5 of walk to run programme. today was the first day i didnt have a tight achiness in my calves. i was just hoping somebody would confirm to me that this is a good thing. the run felt  great

yes It is a good thing!

means your muscles are getting used to the effort.

Caroline are you remembering to stretch properly (including your calves) after every run/walk? I think doing this really helps stop those aches and pains.

i have had an ice bath the last couple of times. and i have to walk up three flights of stairs when i;m finished

I don't think walking up stairs is the same as a stretch. I always stretch after a run. I think it REALLY helps avoid sore muscles.
