Outdoor run

Hi everyone!

 I started running  about 4 weeks ago. I've been doing a few miles on the treadmill 3 nights a week.

I did start running about a year ago but gave up due to constant injuries!

I'm managing to keep the aches down to minor niggles this time.

I went out just over a week ago for a run outside, only managed 2.3 miles in under 20 mins and was wiped out! I was very disapointed as I'd been running 4 miles on the treadmill ok, even did a 10k on it without too much problem.

So anyway, this week I've ran on the mill 3 times (including a 10k), went swimming and did a mile and went out for a quick ride on my bike yesterday to scope a route to run.

This morning was such a lovely day I decided to go out and run the route I planned yesterday which happens to be 6.2 miles

I got round in 58mins 47secs, I'm so chuffed! I felt I could have ran faster and further afterwoods too!

Not sure why I'm posting this other than I feel great!!

Hi Che, well done on your running. Reckon you've got the bug now. Keep it going!

Che - if you had constant injuries last time, be careful not to up the mileage too quickly and get yourself some appropriate running shoes, you really need to go to a specialist running shop where your running style can be analysed and the appropriate type of shoe determined, Not JJB or similar high street stores, . Running outside is completely different to the treadmill, on the treadmill you will need to put the incline to 1 to replicate outdoor running and the roads are not cushioned like the treadmill which may account for your previous injuries.

I think you're right JPenno. I'm going to investagte the local running shops this weekend, hopefully bannishing my hip aches!
