Timing chips

How do the timing chips attach to your laces ?

I'm due to run a race on the 14th May that uses the timing chips on trainers, the ones I have done before have been a chip attached to the race number...

My trainers don't have "normal" laces that I can unlace to thread things through... the are in a continuous loop type thing with a tightener to adjust them... does this mean I won't be able to attach the timing chip ?

Thank you !

Hi Lisa,

With that type of chip you usually get a couple of ties to help you attach them. Having said that, I recently did a race where they didn't give us the ties, so I had to tie a new lace around my ankle. The chip has a couple of holes in for you to pass the lace  through.

Thank you I'll make sure I take something with me just in case !

Why not contact the race organisers, they would be the best people to tell you.

They should send instructions with the chip, too.

Some I've used lately have been on a velcro strap that you put round your ankle.

Whatever you do, don't thread your laces through the chip.  They need to take it off your shoe at the end of the race and if you've threaded your lace through it they'll cut your lace.  You'll be given some ties to attach it to your shoe or it will be on a velcro strap to go round your ankle.

The ties are akin to those that you use to tie up sandwich bags with - very easy to use

it may be worth taking some form of tie with you last the Bristol 10k and H/M chips were held on by a sticky backed paper strip this work fine until last year’s H/M when it rain and 990 runs lost their timing chips it was all over the local news paper i have the 10k coming up next month so it will be interesting to see what they use
