It was a gawjuss day out there, the view from Pitchcott & Oving was just stunning

I am showered and fed and trying to warm up before I head into work for the night ... oh the joy!

Well done to all who've biked/runned/marshalled

Melds, I was was pedalling so hard that I didn't see the view  Oving is only 15 mins from Winslow.  Where were you?

Evening!  Well done to all who have been out and about in whatever capacity today.  I went to a table top sale and FP Jnr came home with a onesie for £3.  I got a tub of Body Shop banana body butter, still sealed, for 50p.  This afty I walked Bear and then walked Evie (easier that way) just over 5 miles in total.  I just feel like hibernating at the moment.  I don't feel down or anything, just CBA.

Happy Anniversary Daffy.  I think I joined the forum just around the time you got together.

Tubs I remember seeing that picture of you before but it is still very poignant.

Chuggy, it is good to hear that Sinterklaas arrived safely.  I presume he still has Black Peter (that's his name isn't it?) with him?

My dad sent me home with several pages of last weeks Saturday Guardian, he often does this when he feels its something I should read!
It's often the same topic today was no exception...

"Is monogamy dead?"
"When couples have been together a long time what happens to the sex? Inside, readers provide some surprising answers..."

I think he's worried Mr Spence isn't getting enough!!!!

now that's what I call a good news story

18/11/2012 at 23:28

Absolutely, Podds! I'm determined to improve my IQ as quickly as possible on this basis

FP---good to see you! We'd been wondering where you were. Sounds like some good shopping there in the FP household And I read somewhere that  that CBA feeling is part of the season: same thing that makes animals hibernate. Or something. And yes, the Pieten (there are lots of them) are of course escorting the Saint :-

Sluggie, great news that you were able to get out for a spin! Hope the back feels OK tomorrow. Any more news on that new subcutaneous pain control thing??

Well cycled too to Nogs and the Meldy one

Rossie and I had a nice outing, r/w of course, but rather chuffed to find it was actually 6.5 km. At least things are moving again!

And here's a nice note to end on, courtesty of C2. Look here:

Nice chugging Chuggs and Rossie!   Things are certainly improving, you have certainly been very 'dogged' on this journey in more ways than one!

Noggs .. sorry, my description was a little short as I usually forget the order of the villages !!
I go from Wendover to Bishopstone to Dinton, up to Cuddington and Chearsley and then across the ridge by the Winchendons, down the col to Waddesdon and across the A41 and on to Quainton and Pitchcott and Oving, through Whitchcurch and then on to Cublington and Wing and then down through Mentmore and home through Aston Clinton, makes for a nice loop and if I am feeling adventurous I do it twice !

morning all

Love that link Chuggs

I have traversed the country over the weekend, or part of it anyway. I spent the day in Bristol being trained then on to Swindon and spent the evening with step mum. She is doing incredibly well, my father died earlier this year, and she is holding up wonderfully. She is 84 (ish) now and spritely as ever. She only stopped work last year when my father was too unwell to leave, She would cycle to work, clean a pub then cycle home!

I am now the proud owner of (another) knitting machine, a bargain. All I need now is the time to play with it!

Travelling home yesterday was lovely, just enjoying the end of autumn and doing duets with Alfie Boe (he never minds if I sing out of tune ).

No time for exersize over the weekend though, although tackling a pile of ironing yesterday evening may well count.

Spin class for me this morning then work.

Pikelet or Crumpet??

19/11/2012 at 07:25

Morning all, have a good Kip M..eldy,

Have been very busy so neglecting peeps , Scott is moving out of his flat and has now got a house where he can get some peace and quiet as the flat was driving him mad.So had a weekend of lifting carpets and cleaning up before moving day today.Place has been empty for a few months and CH was not working to radiators so had a panic trying to get the place ready for him.Traced the fault and managed to do a temp repair ( motorized valve faulty .)so now have warm house and hot water. Will be out all day waiting for removal guys to turn up so play nice
Time for a coffee before I go.
Feeling a bit guilty as training plan up in smoke at the moment so no running for a few days.
Oops sorry to say well done Chuggy and the progress you are making on the plodding front

19/11/2012 at 09:04

Oh Westie, what a great father you are! It will make the whole move so much nicer to find the new house warm and cozy. And nice for Scott to have somewhere a bit quieter; it's awful when there's a constant din, you can never relax.

Melds, I had a look at your route, mostly cos the names are so lovely. (I like living in a country with places like Nieuwegein and Waddinxveen, too, of course, but there's something so wonderful about a route that includes Cuddington and Waddeston and Pitchcott...) It looks like quite a piece of athleticism, too! (Going round twice does not of course surprise me: you are the fabled one who finished her half, felt fine, so nipped round the course again)))

Sue,  your step-mum sounds like a real inspiration. And it must be so nice for her that you stay in close touch. I remember how very hard the first year was for my dad after mum died. Every day is an anniversary when someone isn't there... Glad you had such a lovely journey home too. Just enjoying the moment is so restorative.

Busy day here, washing, drying, getting some things into the post, bit of shopping. It doesn't sound like much but it seems to require the organisation of an army!

Final note: the barefoot running thing really does work. It's quite a revelation to not hurt before, during or after. Brilliant.

Happy days all! xx

19/11/2012 at 09:39

Morning each,

Melds, your route has a good few miles the same as mine.  The crossroads on the ridge above Cuddington I approach from the other side, then follow the same route to Oving, where I turn left towards Winslow.

The forecast isn't too good for today so I've opted for a day of home based fun.  Bagging logs, cleaning bikes, grass care, buying yet more tyres for car and trailer etc.

19/11/2012 at 10:14

Morning

Promisingly looks like a lovely day here today and is guaranteed to be so I would guess as I am stuck in my office in the morning and then on a course in Maidstone in the afternoon

Hoping to get back in time to join Mr P for his orthopaedic surgeon's appt so see what his bloke's "hurty knee" really is!!  If I don't get there in time he'll never remember all the jargon re what the problem is!!

Sounds like a lot of good cycling going on from everyone I am surprisingly unstiff after yesterday's fun in the muddy woods and it really was a glorious day to be out and about

Westie - you spoil that boy of yours

Brilliant biking :0) Cuddington sounds like it should be on the map with Camberwick Green :0)

I've got the newspaper cutting on my Facebook page on the off chance my brother might come across it. He was born 15 months after me and ended up being fostered so doesn't sound as though he had an easy time with birth parents. I'm sure I've mentioned this before, but my birth mother was brought up in a children's home after her father was lost at sea in 1940. It was a bigamous marriage and two of her siblings died before she and her brother were taken into care and their mother committed. She subsequently met my father who was in his thirties, 5 children from previous relationship so I have several step siblings by the sound of it. I was fostered at 6 months and adopted at 1 year. Interestingly my mother was assessed as 'slow' mentally but the note goes on to mention that she needed strong glasses, I'm pretty sure she had Keratoconus so she wouldn't have been able to see much with glasses and I doubt the children's home would have investigated further.

I love Alfie Boe Sue :0) Just got his latest CD on Amazon :0)

hello

wow Tubbs  - what a start in life you had!

FIL died in early hours of Saturday night. of course all sad but also relieved. Mr FF is actually much less stressed  now and I think we are all grateful to have had him around for so long - the boys are fine too after a few tears. Problem will be how Grandma will cope but we'll just have to see. Mr FF is out making arrangements today, I'm off work this week so that's worked out well
