Ancient CDs you find at the back of the shelf

which are actually still quite good

Found these and others, all lurking at the very back of the shelf under an inch of dust. They still sound good to me and not as dated as I expected ... I'd long forgotten I had them. Welcome back to the CD deck, old friends ...

Queen - Night at the Opera
Elton John - Yellow Brick Road
Clapton - Unplugged

I lost all of my CDs in the divorce

After my divorce, for a while I had the ex lodging with me while she was sorting out her new place. Not an ideal arrangement. My favourite CD at the time was Meddle, by Pink Floyd. I particularly liked putting on a track called "One of these days I'm going to cut you up into little pieces".

Muttley - shocked to hear of "an inch of dust". Surely, seeing you avatar, you have the perfect duster built in so no excuses!

A slight tangent but does anyone still listen to vinyl?

Is it terminally uncool to admit to finding a couple of Supertramp CDs as well?

Yes...  But only due to the format

Read this and looked, Elvis Costello - my aim is true, and Vinyl, yes I bought two LPs last year, of old favourites Deaf School

I used to have quite a collection of LPs back in the days of vinyl. Then I moved away from home to take up a job and left the collection behind. It lived in a cupboard that my Dad thought would be a good place to for his home-made wine to ferment ...

On a visit back home one evening I heard a muffled "whump" sound from the cupboard.

You can guess what had happened. Most of my records were ruined

Pah, you youngsters. I've still got loads of cassettes!

Which you recorded from wax cylinders

Love Number of the Beast.  I have that on Vinyl alongside The original Now that's what I call music.

I still have some of my Dad's single sided 78's, and they have a franked postage stamp on them to show the tax was paid...

I have Now 1 to 12 all on vinyl

We have some Sony digital cassettes in a drawer, But the player has long since vanished

conversely, what about albums you're shocked to realise how dated/bad they are?

I nominate Pink Floyd's "The Wall" - listened to it recently... dismal... Comfortably Numb is good enough to stand on it's own merits, but other than that... deary deary dear...

I love "The Wall". Only Floyd album I dislike is "A momentary lapse of reason".

I was injured for a couple of months and had to resort to spin biking. Dug out my Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath albums to get me through the spin sessions. great stuff.

The only Floyd album I still listen to is Wish You Were Here, although I do have Relics and listen to a lot of their very early stuff on youtube

Sabs' Paranoid album has become my fave of theirs over the years, but if you'd asked me 30 years ago I'd've said it was one of their weaker ones

A "rediscovery" for me - "New Boots and Panties" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads. I bought it on vinyl when it came out in the late '70's  but hadn't listened to it in years until a few months back.

I had forgotten how good it was - utterly original, great lyrics (real wit and very clever wordplay) and also superbly played, with Chas Jankel's jazzy piano lines particularly impressive.
