VikW, I am a community midwife, feel free to ask me Q's by PM. Certainly at my unit there is no way you can shadow a midwife, even though you are CRB checked. I know it sounds silly but even, for example, though you may be CRB checked to be a health visitor, you would need another disclosure if you started midwifery training, then another for a midwifery job. Getting a placement within a birthing centre/community midwifery would be no easier, as it still needs a CRB, as there are still babies there
It's mental isn't it? Years gone by there was the ability to get placements but now it's much more stringent on the CRB stuff. As I say though, feel free to PM me.
DteS, there are *heaps* of midwifery jobs where I am but perhaps they don't want to live in Londinium...we are crying out for mw's here.
