Ok it's not a classic in the old sense but seems to get a lot of air time

I love Echo Beach

There aren't any that spring to mind but I do have a pathological hatred of cover versions -  except for "Hurt by Johnny Cash which was better than the original.

I always find with covers that I prefer the one I hear first.I'm probably the only one who prefers All Saints version of Under the bridge, rather than the Red Hot Chilli peppers one.

I find their stuff all to sound the same and a right old dirge.

Anything by Whitney Houston, especially that one.

Ah yes, melisma, about as much use to music as a prostitute is to the pope.

Anything by Celine Dion. Shudder.

All those latter day Johnny cash covers are superb.  The reason I hate Echo beach so much is that it's supposed to be so cool...Celine and Whitney and their ilk are all so cheesey anyway.

I wouldn't call any of the songs listed above 'classics'.  I think of classics as songs like I Heard It Through The Grapevine, Dock of the Bay, My Girl, Sex Machine, One Nation Under A Groove etc etc.

The ones listed above are just popular with certain people.

And I-eeeee-I-eeeee-I will always love yoooooo-ooooooooooo-oooooo...

lazy singing, the trick is to hold a long note and make interesting, or if you can't, wobble about all over the shop and the gullible might think it's 'interpretation'.

Anything by Frank Sinatra, the man could drain the life out of any tune and totally agree about Queen an 80's Accountant's idea of rock.

Whitney Houston's song that can't be named actually makes me angry and violent with every listen.and is responsible for nearly 20 odd years of trilling and warbling masquerading as emotion in singing.
