Had to start this thread as we went to the Rosebowl yesterday and witnessed England destroy India

Two centuries, superb bowling from Anderson, and a run-out from Monty  - who could ask for more?

It was on when I was in the gym and what I saw was great stuff.  Long may it continue!

and quote of the day came from some very very lagered-up Indian fans : as it was obvious they were going to lose, they spotted some fellow fans leaving early and shouted

" Oi - come back here and lose properly!"

I hope they give Monty a game today. I can see why Peter Moores and Co. left him out at Bristol - flat pitch, fast outfield, short boundaries - but they need to look at the bigger picture.

He’s played only 11 limited-overs games in his life that weren’t one-day internationals. He’s having to learn this part of his trade in public, which is tough. It’s taking him time to learn to lure batsmen to their destruction in this form of the game, rather than just keeping them quiet. And that means that he needs to play, even in the unpromising games. I’m sure the supporters would understand.

We had a really good day out, though I'm not sure that the pitch made ideal one-day entertainment (a little more pace would have been nice)...good result, though

I’m glad you enjoyed the match, Crash. We had a splendid day at Bristol - and my hat made an appearance on the television highlights programme.

I think the pitches for one-day games are always likely to be bland. It’s a batsman’s game at the best of times, and the crowds want to see a high-scoring game.
