I think it was Manchester 10k but I'm not sure-The "winner" was miles ahead and thought he had it, not realising that the guy he'd left for dead was steaming home with a late run, slowed down waving and got beaten right on the line.  Didn't turn up for his silver medal.

Anyone remember the event and year please?

Can't help with that one Mr P but something similar happened in the women's race at Chicago last year. Adere ran a spectacularly fast finish.

There was a world half mara championship two or three years ago where that happened. Edmonton 2005, perhaps?

Yep, Edmonton

I expect there are a fair few similar examples.

Woo-Hoo! Thanks Swerve, that is indeed the one!  It must have been the weather that made me think it was Manchester.

Enjoyed watching the Chicago vid too Mel...
