I am shocked by how Ray Davies looks!  And struggling with his voice.  Only 68, Waterloo Sunset is still a beautiful song.

Johnny Cash did Hurt when he was 69/70.  What made that so brilliant was that it was what it was, no hiding.  No trying to pretend that he was 20 again, no reprise of past work. 

Macca and Ray, and Mike and his disrputable mates and Bob Dylan, for sure, should sing about what is relevant to them now, as the people they are now.  Sing new stuff in a new way, don't just replay the back catelogue. 

I once saw Chuck Berry in a sports hall in Swansea, he was a pale imitation of himself.  I saw Desmond Decker and twisted again and again one dire night in Devon.  And Hawkwind (twice) !!!  They're probably playing my silver washing machine somewhere tonight.
